    child care *GRRRR*

    just gotta vent this!!

i am due back at work next week and have been taking hannah into child care for visits to get her used to the place. she was due to start today and also go this friday to get her used to it before i am at work!!

however, she has gotten sick from just visiting there. she has conjunctivitis and is on antibiotics for a respiritorary tract infection. so i cant take her in this week at all BUT i still have to pay for the days this week that she cant go in for!! and i am not working yet so dont really want to pay 50 per day for nothing.

Yep, they get ya don't they!! You have to pay for the "place" whether she is there or not! It sucks also how sick they can get, but usually this is only at the start until their immunity gets a bit better. On the conjunctivitis thingy, if you still have breast milk, squirt some in her eyes... works!! Oskar had it and this worked and cleared it in less than 48 hours!! Otherwise normal cows milk also works... just use a cotton ball. I hope Hannah gets better soon too!!

Any daycare centre that I had James at (we moved from NSW to Qld) had always only charged half fees for days that a child was sick...I have, however, heard of having to pay full fees for absences. I think it's silly because you have allowable absences I feel you shouldn't have to pay for those, but anything after those allowed, you should pay for.

Hope Hannah's conjunctivitis clears up and her RTI too!!!

Hi, ours charges every day whether he is there or not. So when Matthew and I both got Influenza, he was not going to childcare at a cost of $50 a day, and I wasn't going to work...and as I am a casual, I wasn't getting paid.

I was questioning a friend about her child care centre, and they have a certain amount of allocated sick days, like full time workers. So if she gets a doctor's certificate, Maddy doesn't go to child care and she doesn't have to pay-unless she uses up her sick days.
I thought that was a brilliant way of doing it! I wonder why they don't all do that

That is so annoying! I also hate when you have to pay for the public holiday. I understand they have costs, but maybe we could get a discount? Its not like they pay their staff much anyway. Are other centres the same with the public holidays? What about holidays, at our place we paid 50% for the days were were on holidays. Is that generally the same in other centres?

I also have Matthew in home care one day a week and even then if he is sick I still have to pay! It really annoys me when it's because of the germ pool there that he gets sick.

Matthew has finally returned to daycare after being very sick for two weeks. We were back and forth to hospital thanks to him getting that Influenza virus (the one that killed the little ones in WA) from the childcare centre. He has been back two days (thurs and fri of last week) and now he has woken with green snot and a very nasty cough. That means three - four days incubation, so he got it from the centre again. Oh he also now has conjunctivitis in one eye. It's never ending!

So now he will probably be off sick again and I will have to take time off work again and we will go in circles again. At this rate they will probably fire me as I am only a temp!! I'm so angry about this!! Can you tell

Maybe the centres could look at having us pay a reduced rate when your child is not there? Why should we have to pay for something we are not using? I have been told it's to keep your child's place there..OK fine...they can have $5!!!

Caro - there are couple of situations where a parent is not to know that there child is sick and passing on an illness. Some illnesses are passed on before symptoms are shown and other times a child can be healthy in the morning, but wake of from their nap feverish and ill (has happened to me). I certainly believe most parents do the right thing and keep their child at home when they are ill, it is hard to blame them when they don't realise that their child is going to be ill later that day.

I agree that you cant do anything if you dont know your little one is sick, but I have seen one little girl at childcare with the most amazing amount of green snot running down her face. Can't miss that one. I will be ringing the centre tomorrow to complain and let them know that there has been another outbreak.

I have taken Matthew to the doctor today, and what do you know, he has I quote "a really nasty middle ear infection and a very sore throat" and my doc is not prone to exageration. So now he has medicated drops for his conjunctivitis and antibiotics for the infection. I guarantee that he will not be in childcare this week to pass it on to some other poor child and their most likely, going insane parents

I've always said the same thing about sick people who come to work. So rude and downright selfish. They whine about needing the money...do they think I'm that rich that I can afford to be off sick with the germs they're spreading? Not to mention that research has found that you cost your employer more money coming to work sick than if you had just stayed home. The other excuse I love is that they need to be there! What, the world will end without their presence????

So if your kid is sick, keep them home...if you are sick, stay there too
