Other causes of bright red cheeks (besides Slapped Cheek)?
Had anyone had any experience with their child having really bright red cheeks, which were caused by anything besides Fifths disease (slapped cheek)?
Today Aidyn has developed very very red cheeks... no other symptoms. We gave him a haircut earlier in the day, and he screamed his head off the entire time... since this his cheeks have been bright red all day/night... and I am really hoping it is related!
I have noticed it before in him... the time he went for a renal ultrasound, he went absolutely rank, and has never struggled or screamed so much in his life, and his cheeks were bright red for a couple of days after, with lots of tiny pin-pr!ck spots of dark red - like burst capillaries.
I am just praying that he, and I, have not been exposed to fifths disease, due to the complications it can cause during pg....
They say the infectious period is pretty much over by the time the rash appears, so then it is too late to do anything.
The reason I am also worried is because on Wed I developed a sore throat, headache, and general unwellness, which lasted a few days - but then didn't develop into anything further (when usually I would expect it to turn into tonsillitis or the flu)... and apparently those symptoms are similar to the symptoms adults experience with fifths disease. I will be making a Dr's appt on Monday, so I can get a blood test done... but until then, am just wondering if anyone has any other experience with cheek rashes in toddlers?
it does sound like slapcheek...which is only a potential problem in the 1st 12 weeks, so you should be fine. Adult symptoms do tend to be more flu like with aching joints (arthritic type pain)...and from personal experience.
Ambah sweets, I hope he and you are both OK. I have no other suggestions for you. Charlie had slapped cheek a few months ago,a s you may remember. Does Aidyn have any red rash on his torso?
I'll be thinking of you with crossed fingers that his red cheeks are nothing more than the effect of his hair cut tanties.......
Hugs......and try not to worry. Did you have slapped cheek as a child? I am sure I have read that most children get it and then do not get it again as adults?
Thanks girls... no there is no other rash on him yet... I will be keeping a close eye on him though. If his cheeks aren't red anymore tomorrow I will be inclined to think that it wasn't slapped cheek - as the redness is supposed to last at least a few days isn't it? How long did Charlie's last??
I'm not sure if I did have it as a child, I might give my Mum a call, though doubt she would remember... having 5 girls she easily gets our childhood stuff confused at times!
Altho, it's funny that it's related to screaming.. perhaps it is just like burst capilliaries in his cheeks from the exertion of screaming? Apparently my grandfather went very red when he was angry LOL - perhaps it lingers after the event!
No more teeth due for a couple of years now I think?
I'm really hoping its related to the screaming... I know I have noticed it on more than a few occasions in the past, where he ends up looking like a tomato for hours afterwards...
Ok, well Aidyn woke up this morning and his cheeks look perfectly normal... So would I be safe in assuming that yesterdays redness was caused by his protesting & screaming??
Milo gets bright red cheeks when its windy, wintery weather, and from eczema.
Or ATM its cos he is cutting 2yo molars.
But mainly the weather, and especially at this time of year.
