    Constipated DD =(

    Hi All,

My DD is very very constipated today. She cries when she's straining to do a poo and her poo comes out in one small blob (not a hard pellet). How do I stop her constipation?

Also, I tried looking butt and saw a small blood spot around her bumhole area.

A few weeks ago (when she wasnt that constipated), the doctor told me to blend some cooked apples and let her eat it once a day, has anyone tried this remedy?

    BTW, DD is 6mths

    Thanks!

Try some brown sugar and water.
Mix a teaspoon with 50mls water. Give in between feeds until poos are back to normal. Always has worked a treat with my kids.
If that doesnt work (which it should) you can try prune juice. Just mix 1 teaspoon of prune juice with 1 - 2 tablespoons of water once a day.Once poos are back to normal then stop the above.

The sugar thing works really well. Cooked pears usually help my DD too, I guess its the same thing as apples, worth a try...

Prune juice also worked for me but pears were definitely the better fruit to stop constipation for DS1.

    Thank you ladies.

Its so hard to see DD straining like that. Just went to get myself apples (before I read about the pears!)

    Will give her some tonight.

    Cheers

Dried apricots also are a good tool.

It is soooo terrible to watch isn't it! My dd got to that point also, straining to poo and crying after each attempt. She had poos as you described rather than the pellets usually described. Broke my heart.

Prunes worked for us eventually. We also used pears, however, at the time DD became constipated she was on a diet of almost entirely pears (due to possible allergies, we kept things pretty simple) and a little rice biscuit.

I soaked prunes in hot water and then gave her the liquid for a drink when it cooled and gave her a full prune to eat sitting up in her high chair (naked but for a nappy as it was quite messy) She had a ball eating the prune and I give her one regularly even now.

I also found a nice warm bath with me while breastfeeding helped her to have a bowl movement. Just gotta be quick when it happens!

    All the best.

My sis has had this problem with her DD. She had to resort to Parachoc (after their 2nd trip to hosp for this problem). Then as a daily preventive measure had her DD drink fresh orange juice - she swears by it.
