Has anyone had experience with a child stuttering??? I have noticed a bit with DD2 lately where she has the typical stutter with some words. She also has does the one where it drags out words eg. muuuuuuuum muuuuumy - hard to write it but hopefully you kinda get what i'm say LOL. I didn't realise this was a stutter until mum said about it on the weekend. She's only 2 and i make her repeat things again to try and get the words right. Anyone else heard of this? Had this?
Yep DD1 went through this at the same age, and it lasted about 3 months. It is VERY normal at that age. By the way - the expert advice is to ignore it, not to emphasise it because it can compound the issue. Just give her plenty of time to talk without feeling rushed.
DD1 went though it at about the same age, outgrew it after about 4 months.
I completely agree with Marushke, time and space to talk are the antidote. It appeared to me that DDs brain was working a lot faster than her mouth and there was a 'traffic jam' of lips and tongue
It is good to keep it in mind though and make sure you have a grasp of how long it is going on and how it is changing as if you do need to get speech therapy, you often need to get on to that asap. The wait list for services such as that is long.
My DD started when she was 2.5 and it was still present at 3 so we started going to private speech therepy sessions. I think she would have grown out of it but I wanted to get on top of it before school or before the habit became ingrained. She is now doing very well and we only see our speechy every 6 weeks.
