DS has started to stand in his cot. He has been able to do it for awhile but when he was in his sleeping bag it was too hard and he gave up pretty easily. He has now learn't to do it in the sleeping bag aswell. Last night i was trying to settle him from 7pm till 9pm before he finally went to sleep. How did you over come this problem?
Hun, I think it's one of those things you just have to wait out. When they learn new skills, they have a tendency to want to practice them- it's a compulsive thing, they can't help it. It will often happen when they learn to sit, stand, crawl, walk.
Hopefully it won't last longer than a week or two. I found with ds, if I put him down, then left him to practice for 10 minutes or so, he would be ready to go to sleep when I went back in (sometimes, anyway )
My DD can now walk around the house in her sleeping bag.
She has been self settling at night for a while, but I would put her to sleep during the day. Recently I gave up on this because she was constantly trying to stand, which drove me nuts. So now I leave her to go to sleep by herself.
It takes her about 30 min to go to sleep and most of this time is spent jumping and running around the cot. If she does get upset I go in to her, but she usually just has a lovely time and wears herself out.
So for me, when DD wouldn't lie down while I settled her, I tried a different way of getting her to sleep.
Yeah, unfortunately not one you can do much about. I think if you keep going and laying them down it prolongs the whole process. He will get over it and lay down or cry out if he needs help to go to sleep.
Holly, how funny is it when they can walk in the bags, Oskar can too and it always looks so adorable and reminds me of Maggie ahahaha.
i posted about this same thing just a couple of weeks ago - yes, it will get better, Jacob is stilling doing (and chewing the side rails of this cot which is driving me crazy as I had to argue for months about resale value of an expensive cot before we agreed to get it).
Now I just go imn, wordlessly pick him up, lie him down, and firmly say, go to sleep. I might have rpeat this a few times, increaing in intervals, and eventually he stays down and goes to sleep.
Helps if he is actually tired too, not just when I would like him to go to sleep!
