My poor little man just woke up screaming and when I went in and picked him up, he was arching and bending and squirming around like his tummy REALLY hurt him. I held him and tried to gently rub his tummy and pat him until it finally passed (probably only 5-7 minutes ish, but felt like forever), and now he's sleeping again like a lamb.
The thing is, this happened last night as well, and its never happened before so I am wondering what's going on.
The only thing we have changed is that in the last 3 days I've fed him his yoghurt/mango/porridge (all mixed, he loves it) at about 5pm instead of at lunch, hoping it would help his sleep as he's been waking more frequently. Its pretty much the only solids he will eat. I am wondering whether its just too late to give him that heavy of food- the porridge makes it quite thick, and he goes to bed at 7pm.
So its probably the later meal, right? He's just never been in such pain before that I haven't been able to help and its so hard and scary! I cannot imagine how mums with kids who are sick a lot do it!
Wow sounds very similar to my evening.. I give DD a mix of rice cereal, apple and yoghurt for dinner at 5pm (that's all she'll eat), then bed at 7pm. She had a screaming session after her dinner, and TMI but turns out she'd done her first big solid poo. Maybe it was painful or just a strange sensation, but she wasn't happy. Anyway, I'm going to give her more breast feeds during the day to get her fluids up which will make her poos softer, and perhaps some pear for lunch too. She's just started to really eat more so we're still getting the food / breast milk balance right.
If you don't think it's poo related, maybe just try rubbing his tummy in a clockwise motion, bicycle his legs, or put him on his tummy to try and get the gas out. Poor little bub it's awful when they're upset and you don't know why... Good luck.
Thanks girls. We had a difficult night, he just kept waking up crying and we would go in and cuddle him until he went back to sleep. Although after about the 4th time I told DH to bring him into bed with me and he could sleep there....but as soon as he got in bed with me he decided it was play time and it was fun to pull mummy's hair and hit her nose and squawk loudly in her ear. After about 10 minutes it was obvious he was in no pain at all and had learned crying = they come get me and cuddle me. He went back into his cot! He kept waking, but would go back to sleep himself within a few minutes.
But he is out of sorts today too. Super, super drooley, whingy, runny nose. Maybe its all tooth related.....sigh...who knows?!!!
