DS Won't stop crying

Our weekend away was totally a flop as DS started crying as we left and has been doing so since. He is happy for 10 minutes at the most and then just cries and wriggles and screams.

He is teething I think but has also caught a bug from Grandmother on Friday.

I have a screaming headache and I don't know how to make him stop crying!!!! Have given him 1.8ml of infant panadol and stripped him down to a shirt and nappy as he is making himself sweat from the screaming.

HELP!!!!

ps I've just put him down to see if he will sleep as he woke earlier than usual... still screaming.

Hmm, how much sleep has he had? Could it just be an earlier wake up time - we go thru stages of that from time to time - but no crying associated.

I would try cuddling (rocking, patting - whatever he usually likes) maybe near a breeze to make him feel a bit cooler and to help calm him. Then hopefully the medicine might kick in.

I assume he has been fed and bottom changed so he's dry...maybe needing mummy cuddles? A bit unsettled as he's been away from the house for the weekend and is adjusting to being home?

Maybe try a luke warm bath? It will cool him down & he might relax a little bit.

I agree on the bath and I would hop in with him to give him some extra comfort.

Then afterwards, just hold him close and cuddle him like Leesa said.

Sometimes they just dont know what to do with themselves.

If he is teething try children's Nurofen. All of my mummy friends swear by it for teething. I agree with the cuddles suggestions too. All you want is snuggles with your mum when you feel lousy

I agree with Taurean - infant neurofen is brilliant stuff. It is different to panadol so they can be used at the same time. As neurofen is a form of anti-inflamatory, I find that it helps sore swollen gums and I find it a bit more helpful for teething than panadol. When teething gets really desperate and interupts sleep, I use both panadol and neurofen but space them out so that I give panadol and then 3 hours later give neurofen.

Sorry your weekend away was so awful. Sick, cranky children can really do your head in. I hope that he starts to settle down for you soon. It is hard, emotional work having a baby that cries constantly and won't be consoled.

If you feel that you need to put him down and have a break, don't feel bad. Sometimes they cry no matter what you do and if you feel yourself getting frustrated, it is absolutely okay to put him in a safe place (his cot) and go and make yourself a cuppa or ring a friend and have a chat. Sometimes 10 mins away from the crying can be enough to get yourself calm and back in a headspace where you feel like you can keep going. I usually go for a walk to the letterbox if I need a break from crying. I have had two very screamy babies so I am sympathisizing with you
