LOL Reezy - we were just talking about the Duggars last night in the live chat - and wondering whether no 17 had been born yet. Thanks for the update!

I'm going to seem like the negative nancy here but I'm skeptical of the situation, I had a few links sent to me once about the goings on of the duggar home, and the parenting styles they adopted it was very sad to read. Of course I don't judge but I think the media presentation vs. the reality is very different.

Having said that though I wish them all the best.

    *hugs*

Nah I agree Cai. I have read about them too, and a lot of their decisions and parenting practices don't sit right with me personally... But that is JMO...

I guess I can only comment based on things I've read, rather than knowing them, so I could be completely wrong...It seems as though the older siblings do a fair bit of the "parenting" of their younger siblings. I can imagine this would have to be the case with so many children, but I can't help thinking that when I become a mother, I would like to be the one mothering them, rather than my older children looking after the younger children. Nothing wrong with looking out for your siblings, but being responsible for them day in day out seems a little sad.

If it works for them, then good on them....It's just not for me

I just found a really interesting blog which commented on the Duggars a few years ago - you should see the varied comments on this family. Some comments go back to 2006, others are from yesterday (August 3). They range from the pro-evangelical Christian angle to the "these children have no individuality the family is a cult" angle.

Really interesting if you want to see a variety of views - the blog is called "my name is mommy". (Mods, I am not endorsing this blog at all, I just think if people are interested in reading a diverse range of views on this it is a good place to start. But please delete if you think inappropriate)
