Question Tips for flying/travelling overseas with a toddler?

Hello, hope i've posted this in the right spot.
Firstly i want to say how great i think BB is! i feel like a bit of a post junkie lately But its great to know there's always someone to give me some advice.

Ok my Question is: I'm off to Fiji with my DH and DS who is 2years old. We are going for a week and i'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for travelling with a toddler, especially overseas? We've taken him on car trips before (which are always a nightmare) and he's been on a plane once before to Sydney but that was only an hour flight. It'll be 3 hours to Fiji and then an hour bus ride to our resort.
I'll take some toys and munchees for him to keep him occupied but is there anything specific i should consider?
I've been told to give him a drink or something to suck on during take off and descent as it can hurt his ears. Anything else i should know?
Also i'll be 31weeks preggas as well- any travell advice there? My OB has cleared me to fly and just said to drink lots of water and wiggle my feet.
Any advice or experiences would be great- DH and i are hoping for a fairly stress-free trip (well as stress free as it can be with a toddler )

Well, I'm jealous! I hear Fiji is a great place for kids. There are so many restrictions about what you can take on planes these days that it mightn't hurt to check that out with your airline just in case. I haven't flown with a toddy so I can't really be of much help but there are plenty of sites with little tips if you google 'travel with kids' or some such. If you're not still using nappies, a seat near a toilet would probably be a good idea. Maybe a couple of small, cheap new toys that you could wrap up and give at intervals would help relieve boredom. Or hold back any little snacky things that come with the meal to have as something exciting later. Can't think of anything else of the top of my head.
    Have a great trip!

Thanks for the article kelly it was very helpful
Sacha- i am soooo excited about Fiji, Dh and i didn't get around to having a honeymoon so this is it! I've heard the Fijians are great with kids too so thats a big plus. Thanks for the idea about giving DS a few new little pressies throughout the flight- what a good idea! My little man loves anything fiddly so i might go to a $2 shop and get some cheap little gadgets to keep him occupied.
    Thanks guys!
