Vomited three times and no obvious signs of sickness? What could this be?
Yesterday, I have noticed DD was a little reluctant to eat... well, when she had her bottle in the afternoon, she vomited a little formula out. As for supper, she was fussy and didn't feel like eating much... but she did have some rice at least. Then around 1am in the morning, she spit her dummy out and threw up the night feed as well as the undigested rice. Well, the night didn't end there. She demanded for a bottle before settling for bed... and within minutes, she threw up again... It was around 2:30am when we got all the sheets cleaned and her bathed. I didn't give her any more bottle instead offered her a bit of warm water so she can go back to bed. Today, she has been her old self except the eating part. Also, I have refrained from giving her any bottle because I fear that she will throw up again. I did however offer lots of juice, water, and pediatric electrolyte solution (which she drank little of it) to maintain her hydration. Aside from that, we also gave her some plain toast, plain rice, and a little cucumber.... She doesn't have a fever or cold... what do you think this could be? Should I resume with her bottles tomorrow or should I wait out for another day?
You will get lots of different advice - from starve the bug, to do nothing etc. Advice I had mainly been given was to try half strength formula - but a paed I saw at hospital once with DD when she was continually throwing up was if she seems hungry, just feed her, if her tummy isnt ready for it, and throws it up - so be it - but dont stress about it unless she starts to so no signs at all of interest in food/drink etc. So I would still give her her bottles if she is interested JMO.
Also, if she gets a bit dehydrated try 5mls of hydralite or similar with a syringe every 10 mins for an hour, and then see how she is. As my DD was throwing it all up still, the paed said even if she keep sit down for 15 mins, her body will absorb some of it
hey carmen, sorry about the typing...dd2 in one hand!!!
DD1 has been vomiting for the past few nights too.Shes still her happy self just off food a bit. With the bottles, i have been giving half milk half water and she has been ok with that. Give that a try.... good luck
Thank you ladies... I will definitely take your advice and continue feeding her as long as she demands for it. DD has never suffered from a stomach bug which is why I get all nervous as there are no obvious signs of other sickness. I feel bad watching her throw up which I think DD realized it too. It's so heartbreaking watching your little one sick... I think this is my weakest part which preventing me from becoming a great, supportive mommy!
