GAIA Natural Baby Skin Soothing Lotion - New product - smaller and cheaper

I loooove Burt's Bees baby stuff. The Buttermilk lotion is divine and I also like their baby bath gel. It smells soooo yummy and makes the skin lovely and soft. I've even started using the lotion on myself. Their adult version is not as nice.
having said that, it is not Australian and not organic, but free of most of the nasties. it has however got some perfume in it (but no parabens, SLS or phthalates in the packaging).

I am about to order some Moogoo stuff to try once i run out of shower gel. it does sound enticing.

I tried Sukin and natural instincts. The issue with NI has been brought up above. Sukin is a good cheap nasty-free alternative. However, i didn't like it as it has quite a strong smell. I dislike lavender smell and a lot of the natural/organic products smell of it quite strongly. The Sukin also had a citrus smell to it, but i just found it too overpowering. NI is also very strong on the lavender.

I also want to try MiEssence. Can someone tell me if that also has the lavender smell (both shower gel/milk and moisturisers?

I'vw started using Eco Store products with the kids and they're great. I've been getting the products from Woolies to start with. As well as bubs stuff they also sell household cleaners, washing products and cleanser/ toners/ and moisturisers. The kids and I also love the sleepytime bath, and I've been using the kids goats milk soap to wash with and it's helped my allergies no end.

Since starting this thread, I've a) made my own nappy cream to use on the kids, which is just brilliant and b) made my own soap. Both were quite simple to do and although some of the ingredients were a little expensive, they'll last for quite a few batches, so it's cost effective. I encourage you all to try and make some of your own products at home. I mostly use bicarb soda and vinegar to clean my house, and it's works wonderfully. Grab a copy of Green Cleaner (it's a little green book - I got mine from Big W for around $7) by Barbara Lord. It has a green cleaning solution for almost every job in your house. Even the dishwasher!!!

S: Caring By Nature is a really small Melbourne outfit that does LOVELY baby personal care items. I got the gift pack for DD and will definately be ordering more for her. The massage oil is devine

Since reading this thread a few days ago i have been taking notice when i go shopping. I have seen Gaia in 3 supermarkets, one health food store, still 250ml bottle, still the same price...... Maybe the shop did put the wrong product on the shelf.

I have had the same Gaia shampoo for 18 months. I don't wash DD's hair every night though.

ETA- i just looked on the Gaia website and yes the price has gone up a dollar but it is still 250ml.

The 100ml tube is a NEW product, in addition to the 250ml bottle. It is also cheaper.

I find it a shame actually that this thread is here - Gaia make products that many mums (including me) love, and is run by a mum herself who started making products in her own kitchen and has now built up a successful company which even exports. I can't see how she or the company have done anything wrong by introducing a new product - yes it's smaller but it is also cheaper so the wool isn't being pulled over anyone's eyes.

It sounds to me like the retailer put the new tube on the shelf incorrectly with the bigger bottle price.

This really just seems to be a misunderstanding, but I have to say that I hope none of our own BB WAHMs ever have their businesses affected by false allegations

Ah i see. That is the other beauty of it, it has so many uses. Doesn't flare up my girls eczema either. I saw on the website she has a few new products too. A sleepytime bath which sounds nice, might have to give it a go.

Yeah, I started using it as it was the only thing that didn't give DS1 ezcema. Actually, we have been going for at least 2 years on one bottle of Gaia shampoo - and it's the only thing I use for the boys!

So many brands in teh supermarkets (of all products) have been replacing their products with smaller amounts, for same or more money, i've come to expect that practice. e.g buy less grams of baked beans, for same/slightly higher price, tin looks pretty much the same.

Obviously that's not the case in this example of Gaia, but many brands of all types of supermarket products, do do it.

i would actually love to be able to see a FULL range of Gaia products in one spot. Everywhere i see GAIA stuff for sale, it's only a few of the range. LIke i see their shampoo, a calm down bath time one, a massage oil, at the supermarket, but no other types. WHen i see their ranges at a chemist, there are also only a few of their stock. I have a child with very fine hair (e/g getting out knots is an issue) and i had no idea Gaia had a de-tangler type product, but now i see one on their website.

Stockists are listed, but you never know HOW MUCH of the range they stock until you visit them in person.

Something i would love to be able to buy in larger quantities, would be organic sunscreen - like a pump pack, family size. our entire family get rashes from the mainstream sunscreens, i suspect we react to the parabens that are in so many skin care products.

I have one gripe with Gaia products, their wipes are a pain in the a$$ to get out of the pack when you really need them (i.e bubs poo bum in the air with one hand, and still needing 2 hands for the wipes, ). Think I will put them in the huggies container and see if they are easier to access.

Love their products though.

You've made my post appear as a personal vendetta against this company. I've had no issue with this company or their products (which for the record I really do like).

I too am a Mum and I am a consumer... but for some reason you feel my opinion is not valid?

An extract from the Gaia Naturals website:

Please note, nowhere does it say in "addition" to the 250ml bottle.

I have looked all over their site for the older 250ml style bottle, but it just isn't there. When you click to purchase online, the only available option is the 100ml size. Now, the fact that the only option to purchase is the 100ml tube, wouldn't that suggest to you that it is because the 250ml bottle is no longer available?

When I last purchase this product a few weeks ago, it was $11.95 for 250ml - so $4.78 for 100ml. The "new" product is $9.95 (price listed on the Gaia website) is for 100ml... does that sound like good value to you?

My apologies Celsie- I looked at the products i use, and i don't use the skin soothing lotion. Yes you are correct, they have changed the packaging and the price/ml is a lot more and it seems the 250ml is not available on line. I guess that means it is being phased out.

Maybe the price is to do with the new style of packaging? Might be more expensive to make a tube than a bottle? Regardless of the reason, i filled out the survey and expressed disappointment in the value of that particular product.

We don't use skin soothing lotion as we use Moogoo products which are more $$$ but totally worth every cent imo.

Even though it is true the value is not the same for the skin soothing product, the others remain unchanged and i will still buy them, as i said, they are so great for my eczema sensitive girls.

Sorry Celsie, i assumed (from the title being changed mainly i guess) that you and Manataray had talked through this thread and come to a different standpoint.

i don't buy the particular product mentioned, just like the Gaia range and use a few of their other products, so didn't know the intracacies of the product you mentioned.

from your explanation, your reasoning makes sense to me too. you provide the raw data to do the comparision too.

Celsie, I apologise hun - you are right that there is no longer a 250ml bottle. That was my mistake. I also apologise for making this seem like a vendetta - I didn't think that was the case and I didn't mean to imply it. I believe the whole thing is just a misunderstanding. I was concerned because I felt there was mis-information in the thread which could unfairly harm a business. I totally understand that you were doing nothing more than venting some understandable frustration at the change in product.
