8 months old - tantrums or just normal clingy behaviour?

I have an 8 month daughter and at the moment, every time I leave the room or put her down, she screams at the top of her lungs, it's so loud, then I pick her up and she'll laugh or smile. Is this normal behaviour at this time or can they start testing you at this age? I have raised my voice a couple of times and she starts crying and looks at me with those puppy dog eyes! That in turn makes me feel so guilty! Any suggestions? Maybe it will just pass when she is more mobile? Thanks!

This is definatly a stage, in my opinion i would leave her, but i do practice controlled crying, if you cant do this then Im sure there are lots of other people who have more info.
I think this is a seperation anxiety, what happened if you stay in the room but just sit on a chair or down by the cot and hold her hand? would she go to sleep this way or would she just play?.
Other than that, have you tried getting her a night light or something that shines light or pictures on the cealing?. We had one of these when my son was little, Its a whinnie the poo one and you wind the thing on the side, it hangs in their cot and they can see the dim picture moving around and it also shines it on the roof while playing music. Mayb something like this will help distract her till she falls asleep ??. HTH

Yup perfectly normal.. Annoying behaviour but normal..

I don't leave Olivia to cry if I don't have to. If I am able to sit with her I do.. but if I have to leave the room I talk to her and tell her what I am doing and I always come back after a short period.. If I have to do dishes or something I pop her in the high chair or her bouncy bounce and take her with me..

Yes its not really related to a sleep issue, just when I leave a room but even if I am in the same room, she constantly puts her arms up wanting to be held. So I am hoping it's a stage, I do spend lots of time with her which is good for her and sit with her too quite a bit. She likes being at my level and screams if she is on the floor and I am standing up! Thanks everyone.

this is the fourth day with a different kid! my DD screams even when i am holding her, could she be bored? i can't do anything around the house, even when she can see me, she screams/cries and throws a tantrum. i am worried she won't come out of it. wish i had the "wonder weeks" just so i could look up "8 months" and see if this is normal!! help!!

Babies at that age usually only scream to try and communicate with you - they just don't have the language yet! I know its frustrating...
And yes - 8mths is very common to start being extra clingy - it can last for months, but is normal. Hang in there, and try to stay calm - she will feed off your frustrations!

Hi my youngest is like that at the moment too,but he is so close to cutting his first tooth, and he cry`s and screams, wants to be picked up all the time,I try to move him around the house in his activity centre,he likes to sit up in that and play, but he has to be near to me all the time,so hard when you need to go out side to get the washing hung on the clothes line and a dog in the yard,I wish i had eye`s in the back of my head.I think it just a stage all bubs go through, all mine have done it,they just want to be with us i suppose.Gotta love ?m........
