Caty's due for her next shots, just wondering if people have found the morning ones 'better' than the evening ones? Obviously each child reacts (or doesn't) differently, but what have you found works for you?
I go in the morning. I wouldn't like going in the afternoon in case of any reactions. Also i would be a mess myself by the afternoon. I like going in and getting it over and done with.
OT - Caro On the radio this morning, they reported that the vaccine had been given to a group of about 30 girls (at a school in Melbourne) and about 20 of them reacted, feinting etc - 5 went to hospital with more serious reactions, and they think the others might be a case of mass hysteria.
One of the girls who was admitted to hospital was basically totally paralysed for a couple of hours, at least thats how it was reported on the radio.
there seemd to be some debate over whether the doctors were agreeing it was a reaction or not.
First thing in the morning for us.. for 2 reasons.. 1. so that theres no wait in the waiting room with a baby as sometimes you can wait hours! and 2. cos if Jess has any reaction to it we can monitor him for the rest of the day and the docs still open if we need to take him back.
Yes panadol before we leave. First needles didnt give any and he had a high fever after them, since we've given panadol, no fever.
I've always taken mine in the mornings for all the reasons stated above... worked well so far.
Also my 12yo DD had the Gardasil immunisation last week... there was a bit of hysteria with girl's crying beforehand, screaming during the injection and trying to escape etc but no negative physical reactions. My DD told me they were all carying on a bit and that she wanted to tell them to 'get a grip' but she admitted that it was painful.
It was a really tough decision to make as well... but so far so good.
We generally go in the early afternoon - less of a wait and just before DS has a nap. That way he can go to sleep on the way home and I can monitor him for the next few hours. When I was little we had them before lunch, I remember this because we were allowed more treats to eat if we were good for the nurse. For some exotic ones we were allowed the day off school too, that rocked!
I usually go in the morning too, esp for the first ones in case of any reactions.
But my two have been pretty good with their shots, no problems afterwards at all touch wood.

I never give DS panadol beforehand as it can mask a reaction, but will give it afterwards as required. He only ever had a mild temp after his 2 month immunisations.

Lucky girl. Not. Poor thing screamed and cried last time....not fun.
