    Gunky Eyes

Harrison has had gunky eyes on and off since birth... I was told that it was nothing and to express some milk into them to clean them... so I have been doing this but they still remain gunky.
The ECHN doesn't seem worried about them... I clean them so many times through the day as they are now real real gunky. I can't get into our Dr until Friday, so I am wondering... is there anything more I could/should do?
I clean them with boiled, sea salted water on cotton wool buds... and I do the breast milk thing every now and then as I was worried at one stage that it might be partly to blame.

    Hi Lisa
I took Isabella to the doctor this morning thanks to gunky eyes and she took a swab (to make sure it wasn't anything more sinister than conjunctivitis) and prescribed some drops, which I have to put in every six hours.
I heard about breastmillk being a good treatment ages ago, so I doubt very much you're causing him any harm. I was also told to go back if they hadn't cleared up in a week. HTH.

    Thanks Mads and Michelle
I want to take Harry to the Dr JIC it is conjunctivitis... but I do doubt it will be.
Madeleine was born with a blocked tear duct, and I had to massage it to remove the gunk... I just can't remember how long it was gunky for!!!
But poor Harry has it in both eyes... some days, I have to clean his eyes so he can open them... poor bubba

Aww, sounds like a blocked tear duct (or two) to me.

Kayla had this as a newborn and the dr told me to massage the duct by running my finger from the inside of her eye (near nose) in an upward motion. She was also given drops to use for 3 days (twice a day) and that cleared it up.

For now I would just be massaging it and using cool boiled water on a cotton ball to clean away the gunk, just untill u can get in to see your gp. The drops do work very well

Hope it clears up for him real soon
