    DD has a temp :(

She never has before. She hasn't slept since 1pm and has been crabby and I couldn't get her to sleep. Then I noticed she felt hot. Don't have a proper childrens thermometer but just a normal one and took her temp under her arm which was 38.1. Is this high?? What do I do??

We gave her some panadol. I can hear her laughing with DH at the moment.

Is she sick?? What do I do??

Just watch her for now & try to keep it down. If its still there tomorrow, or she seems in pain maybe get her checked over. She might have an ear infection or sore throat & they are hard for you to see

Aw hun, its so worrying when they have a fever, esp when its their first one.

When DS had a fever, I called the nurses on call line and they told me the following:

    - Underarm temperature is the same as mouth temperature (there was previously a whole thing about adding on half a degree to underarm temperature to get the true internal temp, but that's not "done" anymore!)
    - A temperature in the 38-39 degree range is considered a 'beneficial fever' which is doing its job of killing the bug thats causing it. at 39.5 you should give panadol. (at 40.5 see a dr, at 41.5 be concerned).

I will give panadol to help DS rest and sleep, which I would think helps get rid of bugs just as much. But when he's awake I just try to do tepid washclothes and cool drinks etc to distract him if the fever isn't too high. But its super hard, I know- when they feel sick all you want to do is give them something to feel better!

Hope your little chicky feels better soon!

I wouldn't worry yet, see how it goes.
Emily had temp for 2 days a few weeks ago but as she didn't seem that upset and panadol always brought it down easily I didn't worry too soon. Turned out to be a virus.
If you do feel concerned go see your GP tomor if it is still up just to put your mind as ease.
Just offer regualr breastfeeds to keep her hydrated.

DD has been hot on and off the last few days too and I was worried but it's just part of teething.... her teeth just don't want to come through .... she's still waiting for her 1st pair poor bub!!

If she's laughing I wouldn't be too worried just yet hehe

Well we co-slept last night so I could keep an eye on her and she could feed whenever she wanted. Haven't given any more panadol and this morning her temp is 37.7 She's a bit sooky but that's about it. She is soooooo cute and cuddly to sleep with, lol.
