Hand, foot & mouth disease

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about hand, foot and mouth disease? My 4 month old bub may have been around a child who has it. Do you think she has a high chance of getting it? She seems pretty happy and she doesn't have a fever.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey firstbub

hand foot and mouth is highly contagious (sorry to say ) as it is spread in droplet form (sneezing, coughing etc) and is contagious for 3 ish days before symptoms appear and while the little blisters have fluid in them

kiddies generally get a low grade temp (but sometimes the temp can sky rocket rapidly depending on the severity) and aches and pains...grizzly and unhappy...then the little blisters appear in between the fingers, soles of the feet, palms and around the lips and in the mouth

panadol for the temp and aches and pains, regular fluids and if at any stage you are concerned take your little one to the Dr

also meant to say that exclusively BF bubs are less likely to catch any bugs as they have the protection of the goodies in mummy's breast milk...so if your BF this will protect your bub, and if she does get it it will just be a mild dose

That is good to know as I do breastfeed my bub. Fingers crossed she wont get it!
