How do you clean behind your babies ears?

    Strange question i know.

But DD gets really dirty behind her ears in the little creases (i assume milk/vomit etc - whatever runs behind it)... and i try to clean behind them every day.

I find water/cotton wool just doesnt do the trick - neither does a washcloth in the bath.

She is very sensitive and hates me cleaning behind them and they can get crusty bits in the creases and it smells behind them

I tried baby oil and it worked fine (softened up the crusty bits and cleaned it) but now all the skin (the next day) is pink and looks like it is peeling or something... dry and yukky ..

What do you use and how do you keep it clean behind your db ears?

I use a face washer with plain water in the bath - I'm lucky DD loves having behind her ears cleaned...
Just make sure that you dry behind them really well. What you're describing sounds like what DD gets when we don't dry behind her ears properly. It goes all dry and smelly. We make sure we clean REALLY well next time (getting rid of the crusties), drying well, and then applying sorbolene several times a day until it clears up (usually about a week). The other spot that can be prone to it is the fold in the neck.

    HTH...

 I noticed the crusty's behind the ears after 4 months!!
I did do what they taught you at the hospital: wet cottonwool and clean behind the ear, BUT there are that stubborn little crease that does not want to be cleaned that way.
I use babyoil to soften before bathtime and then in the bath, wash again with soap and facecloth, and again, just to be sure! And like mg said, make sure it's dried well.

I often put oil on as I am taking the bib off after dinner (often times it olive oil) and then in the bath just do a quick wipe with a washer... that tends to loosen everything up by the time they make it into the bath & then it comes off easy.

I use olive oil that's for the skin (available at the chemist), on a cotton tip (the ones for babies with the thicher bit on them). I also use it in the crease of her neck and belly button to gently clean there too. I love it as a moisturiser as well it keeps DDs skin really nice and soft.

My friend told me the other day they can get cradle cap behind the ears and in the neck folds too, and its the dead skin cells that smell. That might be why the skin is pink, because it;s new skin. Maybe if you continue with the oil eventually it won't be pink because it won't peel??
