Help! Strange fine red rash on body on 14mth old, and big spots on face. What is it?

    hi to all

just wondering if anyone out there can help me identify a strange rash in my 14mth old DS.

i'll start the story from the start. a week ago, he woke up in the morning with 7 raised spots clustered together on his face, only on his right cheek, and one on his right ear lobe, and one on his chin. they are about the size of a normal mosquito bite in an adult. he still has these spots on his face now, a week later, but they are not so raised anymore, but they are still red and their diameters seem to have spread a little. I dont think they are too itchy as i havent seen him scratching them.

i took him to the doctors and she said she didnt know what it was, maybe insect bites. i would have thought they looked like mosquito bites, but we are in Melbourne and it was about 10 degrees in his room that night!

then, about 5 days later, i noticed a fine red rash across the sides of his torso. over the last 3 days, this rash has spread to most of his front torso, and also on both cheeks. the rash is made up of very close-together raised red dots, so when you run your hand over it, it feels very rough.

in all this time, he has had no other symptoms - no fever, no appetite change, no sleepiness, etc etc. although he has developed a small cold (just a slight runny nose and a cough) over the past 4 days. and he hasnt eaten anything different lately.

another thing - last week, two days before the big red spots on his face appeared, a doctor suspected he had giardia (due to very smelly and yucky nappies), so she prescribed Flagyl and i used this for 3 days (so two days into the treatment, the spots appeared)

i dont know if the big spots and the fine rash are related, or are connected to the Flagyl treatment, but i wonder if anyone out there have seen any of this before and know what it might be? i will try to book into my normal doctor tomorrow but because they are always busy, i may not get in to see him for a few days.....

    help!!!!!

Sorry I can't help you Leanne, just wanted to say I hope your little one is feeling better soon.
Is there a bulk billing clinic you could go to in the meantime if you have to wait a while to see your GP?
