dd is 8 months old now and im still washing her hair first, by clutching her in one arm like a football position and using our bathroom sink to wash her hair first( like for newborns-how the nurses taught us to wash hair first then body), then i dry towel her hair and then she has a bath in her bathtub where i wash her face and body. but she is getting rather heavy now and she moves around a lot which can be a but dangerous, seeing i only clutch her with one arm. I was thinking to wash in the bathtub with her sortof lying down, but wouldnt all the soapy water from the shampoo get in the bath? then i would have to change the water and she would get cold waiting...because i use only QV bathoil to bathe her and thats it. How does everyone else do it?
i just wash them in the water, with either nothing in or qv oil.
ive never had a problem with shapoo in that bath hurting either of my boys eyes as i use baby shampoos.
Ive never heard of washing them hair first?
DD1 (4) sits in the bath, I pour water over her head. She has a flannel over her face.
DD2 (17 weeks) I lay her in the bath, on my arm, then wash her body and pour water over head with a cup if I wash her hair.
I use QV wash. I actually rub it on DD skin like you do moisturiser before I put her in the tub. I've not had a problem with it gettin in her eyes. Also I use a bath support seat kind of like a plastic reclining chair for them that sticks to the base of the bath with suction caps as DD loves the water and being submersed in it deep. But as of tonight when I drain the water out I left like 2cm deep of water and made a donut with a face washer for her head and layed her on her back to let her kick around - she loved it!!! We were shown to wash hair first too but haven't done that since she was about 6wks old.
What sort of shampoo are you using? I have the gaia baby shampoo but are not using it at the moment as DD has cradle cap.
My kids all showered with me and barely bathed but when they did they were straight into a normal bath and had no problems with soap in their eyes. A MCHN years ago told me there is no need to wash hair everyday ona baby so I jsut didnt bother
DS has his hair washed maybe once a week, depending on how much food/dirt/makeup he's rubbed into it. He has a bath most nights as it's part of the routine, but hairwash has always been him in the bath and the same water used. It was just warm water until his hair was actually getting dirty, now we use an organic dill and cammomile shampoo when we need it. Smells divine and promotes sleepiness.
We did wash nightly and oil DS up and got rid of cradle cap... once we stopped that it came back. So we don't shave all his hair off any more but leave him with a bit every haircut.
is she sitting alone yet? if not she is probably sitting with you supporting her? I'd just get a non-slip mat for the tub and put her in with a little water. if you don't feel she can sit, I'd either lean over and support her or get in with her! I wouldn't bother with buying anything for her to sit in, I think at this stage you wouldn't get your money's worth out of it.
If you are worried about the shampoo suds getting on her too much maybe you could minimise it by washing her hair just before you get her out? I've also always just introduced them to having water poured over their heads by doing it a little at a time. If she hates it then just lay her down in the bath to rinse her hair out.
Oh and I forgot we didn't wash hair everyday either, maybe once a week, depending on how much food etc was in it. Just water
We were told to always wash heads last so they don't get cold lol
I have never bothered using product for their hair. DS gets his washed a couple of times a month if he is in the shower with us and we remember. DD is 10 weeks and I have only wet her hair with water to clean it.
It won't hurt if there is soapy water from the shampoo - you don't need to change the water.
