    How long to feed for?

My 4 week old was feeding 10 mins each side at the start and she was having too much so I cut her down to 7 mins per side. She seems satisfied but then looks like a bird and keeps turning her head for more. It doesnt take long and she stops going for more so
i am not sure do I need to give her more or just leave it?

I think offer until she looks like she's had enough? Would it work to feed on one side, do a nappy change and then offer the other side? That might help her decide if she's really hungry or not.

What did you mean by 'she was having too much'?

She was just staying on because it was for for comfort rather than to feed and she was getting killer wind and her poos were so runny so I spoke to a midwife and she said to maybe cut back the feeding. I was doing the nappy change in the middle and she was cracking it big time. I just want to make sure she is getting enough thats all I dont want to under feed her but then I suppose she will let me know if I am hey!!!

Firstly, you're doing such a great job with your new little bubba...and in the early days there seems to be so many uncertainties. I was always told you cannot overfeed a breastfed baby. They regulate the milk supply themselves and will feed until they're finished.

At 4 weeks their digestive system is so new, so wind, vomit and runny poos, even green poos are common. I always went by the rule that my baby has a relationship with my boobs that I am not a part of, so I just let her suckle for as long as she wanted! You cannot control how much milk your baby is sucking at each feed either. Some times she might suck vigorously and take heaps of milk quickly, and other times she may be sleepy and drink slowly...

As the ABA would say...ditch the clock and go with the baby...

    Hope this helps.

If she's a comfort sucker, to the point where she's drinking so much that she's sick (my second was like this), would you consider a dummy? If she's feeding well, I don't *think* there'd be the nipple confusion there...

She is a comfort sucker and we introduced the dummy because yes she drinks so much she makes herself sick and well I have worn most of it haha! I usually let her feed 10 mins either side and then change her and if she cracks it i will check to see if she is still hungry but she seems to be fine I guess.
