from one to two we upgraded to a pram with toddler seat, got another car seat (although dd1 was able to get a 6month-4 year booster which she would have needed at some point anyway) and a mei tai as we didnt have one before.
As we have three girls the cost of clothes arent too bad as there are lots of hand me downs but each season they do need a few new bits and pieces and shoes generally only last one child
Week to week food for one more isnt that much dearer we just each have more veg and less meat than we use to and I buy cheaper cuts of meat but still the same amount. School fees for dd1 were only $211 this year at a public primary, kindy fees were dearer about $160 per term. Child care costs are one thing that has impacted on our budget, not sure if that is something you need to consider. Nappies are an expense that can really add up if you have two and are using disposables. We have takeaway and treats less often but that doesnt hurt anyone.
Movies/zoos etc that have family passes are often family of four so the second child doesnt add much to those outings. Plus there are heaps of things to do that dont cost or cost very little, picnics at the park, fishing, walks to the beach. And thigns to do at home ie camping in the backyard dd1's favourite, baking, homemade playdough.
Swimming lessons are one of our biggest expenses but we think its important so we prioritise it. As yet we arent doing dance or other sports but if and when the girls ask I we will find somewhere we can afford. Talking to some of the mums at school there is a local dance class for $8 lesson or others that are $15+ per lesson.
As others have said you make do and find ways to save here and there. Budgeting really helps and we put money away each week for christmas as a couple of years we got caught short at christmas
All we needed was a two seater pram because of the close age gap between the girls, dd1 was still in it a lot and we also got a toddler bed for her too. We still had everything else. She was breastfed so all we needed once she was born were nappies. When she was about 8 weeks I had to get different outfits because she hated clothes around her tummy with the reflux. So she didn't cost us much more at all.
Having two girls has saved HEAPS of money as DD2 wears all her clothes she's outgrown!!! It's awesome....
I think having two boys or two girls would have to be cheaper than having one of each....Kwim?
Ill use from baby 2 to baby 3 as an.example as obviously DS1 doesnt contribute to our expenses.
Being both girls saved us a lot but as everyone has said you make it as inexpensive or expensive as you please. Having the twins hasnt impacted out budget much either even now when i can no longer breastfeed (always have as a back up it may not be possible) we got to 8 months and i planned to go longer but the boys just werent up for it. Now they all eat regular meals we obviously spend more but we shopped around to find where is the cheapest or better value.
eBay was also very helpful we got the 2 cots plus a pram and highchair thrown in for $120.

How much is formula per week?
In my experience babies are cheap. It's when they get to school and secondary school that it begins to get more expensive. Try telling a teenager that they have to wear hand me downs or clothes from kmart. That's when it starts getting more challenging IMO.
That's what I'm worried about N2L. If DF sticks with this job, then hopefully we'll be ok. Just not sure how to deal with the unknowns. Thats what's really stressing me out about this.
Mind you, if you gave a kid the option of never having been born or having to wear kmart jeans, most would chose the jeans.....Not all though :lol:
My opinion? There's never a perfect time to have a child. There's always something that could hold you back if you let it. I say go for it. You'll cope..and once s/he is here it will all become irrelevant.
The second baby would have been practically free here, apart from the cost of her (home) birth. We did buy things, but most were wants, not needs. And we have been given a heap of stuff to have or borrow again.

Nothing ROFL well that's what I told DH.
The second started to cost more once she got into shoes and started to voice her choice of clothes. Also despite being an April and June babies, there was a fair offset in seasons, so many clothes in the first year could not be worn (wrong size for the weather).
Also begins to cost as they eat more, especially when going out and now we have to buy 4 meals, rather than 3 (and of course before that 2).
I suppose I am finding it slowly increasing as time goes on. My eldest clothes are now costing more and she is trashing shoes before she outgrows them.
For us its $30 a week but thats for 2 babies.:
Our kids dont really get to object over clothing and wont get to if they want designer clothing they can get a job and earn them. Thats the way me and dh were raised and the way our children will be.
As for clothing now i buy when the season ends for next year, layby and op shops or ebay/online.
Even with both of us not working for 7 months we managed and still afforded little extras and thats with 4 kids, school excursions, swimming lessons, new clothes for all etc

Thanks for all your replies. I think we'll wait until we move into our new place and see how we cope, but it looks like we'll be TTC soonish.
