How much sleep should she be having?

Miss B for the life of me will not sleep past 5am in the morning!
She goes to bed 1930-2000 and wakes up 0430-0500, and only has one nap a day for about 1hr - 2hrs if we are REALLY lucky!

    Is this normal???

How many hours sleep does ur toddler have?

I think it really depends on the child hun. One of mine was much like that, the other sleeps for 10+ hours at night and up to 4 hours during the day - even at 3 1/2 ! Some kids just need more sleep than others. If your DD seems to be fine with that much sleep, then that's probably all she needs. However if she's grumpy a lot, and is crashing before the end of the day, then she probably needs more. I don't know if it's just my boys, but I find it really easy to tell when they need more sleep. They really are quite different when they are tired.

Jazz is like that, doesn't really matter if she goes to bed at 9-10pm (not that she often does) she's up by 5-6am. And yep only 1-2 hours of sleep during the day. Crazy kids huh!

I think its individual, like adults. I am an early riser, usually up by 6am anyway. Shel prefers to sleep later. My brothers are both early risers. My sister, mum and dad can happily sleep until 11am! No reason for toddlers to all sleep the same

I agree with Mel though, if she seems like she isn't coping with the sleep then theres a problem. But if she happily lives with this sleep, then its just her personality I think.

A friend of mine had that with her DD and she paid a sleep school lady to come to the house..

    The lady just said..

Do not get her up until 630 regardless... do not go in, dont get her up at all.

So 3 days later she now wakes at 645-7

    Good luck!

I don't really think its worth punishing her though... Making her stay in bed when she's awake? If she's coping and normally happy, then I wouldn't be putting her through something traumtic like ignoring her when she's just following her own body clock...

Just my own opinion of course, not a one size fits all.

    Thanks everyone!

Unfortunally she seems fine during the day! so bugga!!!! maybe she is getting enough sleep and dosent need any more!

She is sleeping in a big girl bed, so when she wakes up she comes out - and i couldnt shut her door on her to stop her comming out, however we have tried walking her back and putting her back to bed, but 5min later she is back beside our bed climbing in to wake us up!

Yesterday we turned her light on in her bed room and she happily sat in there for 30mins reading so maybe we just keep doing that!

But man its getting cold of a morning and still dark at 5am!!!! i was thinking surely she needed more sleep!!!!!!!!

We have her favourite toys set up in her room: a colouring book and her crayons, her trains, her cars, and some books. We still have the monitor set up so we can hear her playing, so she usually doesn't want to 'get up' until 6ish some days. I'm sure you already do that but if not its an idea.

My DD1 is exactly the same, has been for about six months now.....come to think of it, BOTH my girls are the same......except DD2 is still sleeping for 2-2.5 hours during the day but she's only just turned one. I think some kids are just early risers and don't need a huge amount of sleep even though they are so active. Sounds like she doesn't need anymore sleep if she's happy. It's SOOOOO hard when the days start to get shorter and colder though and they're waking up in the pitch black. Am feeling your pain hun xx
