Any of your toddlers/children pigeon toed?

My DD is pigeon toed (inherited unfortunately) and we have an appointment to get her feet analised.

I was suprised at how costy the fees were. 30min consultation is $100, IF DD needs orthotics a mold will be taken of her feet which is $80, then the orthotics themselves are handmade and obviously customed to her feet and will cost a whopping $370 a pair!!!! They will probably only last 12 months as she is still growing.

    My questions are:

Did you get your toddler/child's feet looked at? If so, how much did it cost? Did they require orthotics?

    We are in Sydney btw.

I will pay anything to get her feet fixed up though

    Thanks

My daughter was pigeon toed but it seemed to correct itself after she began walking. It was pretty bad and we thought we would have to take her to a specialist so we were surprised when her feet started going the right way!!

Noah was born with club foot, only his right foot was affected but we had to buy the denis brown boots and bar and that was $550, as he grows we will need to get bigger boots at a cost of $250 and he needs to wear this for the next 3 years. I have just come across an interesting webpage at the Childrens Hospital in Westmead I will send you the link but here is a piece from the page..

    * Most children with intoeing do not require treatment.
    * Special shoes and braces aren't usually needed and are only recommended by doctors for rare cases. Orthotics have no role in the correction of intoeing.
Hope this helps, will send the link now

I was a little pigeon toed as a toddler and DD is too. At the moment i'm doing nothing but i can REMEMBER having to wear my shoes on the wrong feet when i was about 2... That went on for a few months and totally sorted it out, i don't know if it's a thing they do to treat anymore?

Bec - I was really pigeon-toed as well when I was a toddler. I had to wear my sandals to bed on the wrong feet! I can remember it and know I was still sleeping in a cot, but don't know how old I was.

I'm not sure whether it's still a recommended treatment either, but it worked for me too. Although I can't recall how long I had to keep it up.

My family Dr was the 'old skool' variety & very practical. I think it seems like a common sense solution if there's nothing structurally wrong to cause the problem IYKWIM?

I was pigeon toed quite badly as a toddler/child. Sadly I didn't grow out of it fully and still walk inwards when i don't concentrate. I didn't get any treatment as my parents didn't know there was any. Dr's never said anything so........ I believe I got it from my grandma.

Going to get DD checked to make sure it is nothing structural that needs correcting. Could be her knees, but hoping it's nothing major and that it won't need any further attention.

    Thanks again ladies

If you are close to Westmead Childrens Hospital see if you can go there to get your dd looked at, it does come as a recommended place. Best of luck!!!
