i really need a full nights sleep.

i am just tired. i need to discover some ways to get DD2 to sleep through or at least when she wakes up not expect to be attached to my breast all night long. it used to be that i could sleep with her attached (and this is how i got through DD1s babyhood also) but i am finding that i am only in a half sleep for much of the night. if i take my nipple out of her mouth she will wake up within minutes and want to get back on.

she is in bed for the night at about 6pm. she will then wake up a couple of times between then and 11pm but DH can settle her within a few minutes and get her back to sleep. its once we are in bed and i wake up to her that i bring her into our bed and then she is attached to me for the rest of the night and gets out of bed at 5am.

i dont know whether trying not to feed her during the night is bad for her.. does she still need some milk overnight at this age? or should i perserver with the crying to get her back to sleep without booby?

that poses a problem too because when she is crying she wakes up DD1 who is then in our room too.

maybe i should give her formula at night? i just dont know.

    any suggestions?

    :yeahthat:

I also want to add that DD2 can scream her head off and DD1 will sleep through it all!

I can totally sympathise (sp?) I have had a similar situation with DD2 - she was going to bed around 8pm, then awake at 1-2am, then 3:30am etc so I'd bring her into our bed and then sleep sitting up feeding her. Its not a good way to get sleep is it?

Anyway, it has gradually been getting better - the night before last she slept through! The only thing Ive been doing differently is getting her to go to sleep in her cot, rather than feeding to sleep then putting her in her cot later

Are you able to get a sleep in here and there? Once a week DH will give me a sleep in and it makes such a difference!

The only other thing I can think of is making sure she's not too hungry overnight (although it does sound like she's comfort sucking) maybe try cluster feeding before her bedtime?

Sorry I can't be more help! Hope you get some sleep soon darl
eta - formula doesn't guarantee she'll sleep better, just thought I'd throw that in there

yeah i realise the formula thing.. but just thought i would try anything! LOL

i googled that dr, he says only for older babies. is 9 months too young then?

i will try to get her to sleep off the boob a bit more tonight, though i know i am in for crying and screaming and waking my 3 year old up. chelsea is just sooooo loud! :-(

Your baby sounds completely normal! But I know that doesn't really help.

Have you read the No Cry Sleep Solution? It has some great ideas for babies that cosleep and are fed to sleep etc.

Can you try and just put her in bed with you and rub her back when she's strirring? 9 months is a notoriously bad time for sleep!

Hollo - I have been using it with my 10 month old and it has been working. I have had 2 full nights sleep through out of the last 3 which is a massive improvement!

Also DD1 and DD2 share a bedroom so DD2's screaming at the top of her lungs was right next to sleeping DD1 - DD1 barely stirred. You might be surprised what they can actually sleep through (just like men!)
