Hi girls! Maybe someone here can help me... I've never been to a Christening before but have got one on this weekend... I would like to take a present for the little boy (baby of a good friend) but I have no clue what to get?! I don't want to get something that everyone else will buy but because I've never been to a Christening before I have no idea what gifts are common or what sort of things people buy?! Does anyone have any ideas for a Christening gift??
You can get nice christening gifts from specialist shops, jewellers or some Christian bookshops. Some things I have seen for christenings are little spoons, cups, special china sets, photo frames, books, little prayer books or Bibles for babies (you can write the child's name and occasion inside) ... there's quite a lot of things. Some people like to get little silver items engraved ... I guess it depends on what you would like to give really.
Hehe, I have no idea what I'd like to give...but I guess something as a 'keepsake' since I'll know this little boy forever but nothing too expensive (our group of friends usually keeps costs to the $20 - $30 mark for most gifts).
Not sure about Australia, but in the UK, silver is the traditional Christening gift.......I found some adorable "First Tooth" silver pots in a jeweller......about $30.....I bought a few, and I now give these!
Actually we were just reading coco a "christening present " this morning. It's a gorgeous little book called Bible stories and is a childs book. My 8 year old read it to her. I am not religious, but the book is lovely and the stories are gorgeous.
Other things we've been given are photo frames, clothes, books (doesn't have to be religious)! xo
We were Godparents recently and we bought a lovely children's bible and wrote in the front of it. When Mackenzie was born she got a gorgeous guardian angel (which you will find in a gift shop or jewellers) and another great pressie was a photo album which was silver and it had engraved her name and date of her Christening. We put all her Christening pix in there so they are all together.
sherie, I am not into the traditional silver sort of christening gifts and such, but still love something that can be kept. Recently my best friend's baby was christened and we bought a gorgeous rug from adairs, was pink with bound edges and had flowers embroidered allover it, was $30, then we took it to one of those alteration's places and got her name embroidered in really big letters in the corner which was also about $30. We went halves with another couple so wasn't to pricey. They have some gorgeouse boy rugs @ adairs too.
i am another one not big on the silver, not because i don't like it, in fact quite the opposite i love it as a keepsake, but i have found that most christenings that sort of thing is the main - one friend i know had 5 silver car money boxes given to her for her son.
i brought a friend a really nice ceramic type music box - it was like a carousel and you wind it up and plays music.
another thing is the "humphrey's corner" stuff it is georgous you can get photo frames, clocks, money boxes, book ends etc all in the same theme (a really cute adorable elephant) i have actually recently seen some humphreys corner stuff in a display cabinet at babyco.
um another idea is a gift we actually received for our dd's 1st birthday it was a collection of coins minted the year she was born, ie 2004 so it is all the coins out then in a nice display folder - maybe check with australia post or a bank or something like that.
