can you put a playmat base through the washing machine?

ok, I know it sounds like a dumb question, but our playmat base says "surface wash only", but its just been thoroughly weed on (was always going to happen, wasn't it...), so it has to be properly washed.

Has anyone run theirs through a machine on a gentle cycle and were the results disasterous or ok?

If nobody knows, well, I'm going to find out this morning. Don't have time to muck about handwashing stuff, let alone trying to get something that is soaked with baby wee clean just by wiping it.

    WIsh me luck!

I wash them constantly (I sell them second-hand and I wash everything that I get in) in my front loader on a hand-wash cycle and I have had no problems. Do you have a front loader or a top loader? Front loaders are much gentler.

I think they don't want you putting them through the wash in case the toys incorporated into the mat get damaged?

    I haven't ruined a play mat yet

I wash ours the same. With the gentle cycle. If you're unsure maybe just handwash it and finish it off with the spin.

I've used mine on the last 3 kids, washing it probably 1-2 a month all that time. I wash it on delicate with bi carb, and line dry. Its still perfect.

OH, that is good to know, thanks!

It is a front loader and it has a "handwash" cycle, so I'll try it on that, once the nappies are out. I'll let you know what happened later today...

Yay for endless washing. Does anyone else wonder how on earth our grandmothers coped without modern washing machines?

The playmat came out of the wash just fine. Actually I think it was dirtier than I realised - certainly the colours look brighter than they did before, I think. It's now hanging over the drier and should hopefully be dry in time for tomorrow morning's nappy-off time...

    Thanks for the advice, everyone!
