ok so i have no idea what i'm going to do when daylight savings changes over.
atm ds wakes between 6 & 7am, he goes to bed around 7:30pm or 8pm, we have dinner at 6pm.
How am i supposed to do everything an hour later than normal?? i don't want him to eat dinner too early or go to bed too early, but he is sooooo tired usually after dinner and bathtime.
should i start now and gradually make his meals and bedtime later about 15mins later than normal and then get to 1/2 hour later and then eventually to 1 hour later?????
when daylight savings started, i didn't worry too much because it just sort of worked itself out, but i think its going to be different when it changes back
btw when does daylight savings finish, I thought it was March sometime?
yes, for adults and older kids, we need to change straight away cos of the change to things like work and school. for little ones, make the change gradually - 15 minutes a day will mean in a week you're onto the new times - without the stress of trying to keep anyone awake an extra hour. it might mean earlier mornings for you for a while, but it's a short term thing - if you try to change it all at once, you'll cause yourself more grief than you need to
SIL tried with DD1 to do it all at once - it was hell for them - the second year they "weaned" her into the new timing and she was much more settled...
Totally agree with BG- move it back 15 minutes at a time. And look on the bright side- you *might* get an 'extra' hour sleep in! (Ok, so not an actual extra hour, but it will feel like it anyway.)
We always just eased ourselves into it - start now and move everything by 10-15 mins over the next few weeks. DS has alwys adjusted really well. We just move the time on one day and keep doing that for a few days - including day sleeps and meals, then after a few days adjust again.
I have absolutely no idea when d/savings finishes - I'll miss it!
Oh wow...ive never changed my DD's routine....they still have dinner, bath, bottle and bed at the same time regardless if it was darker or lighter....they settle into the change with no fuss at all.

we live in QL and just went to Sydney for the weekend, it was a night mare. I tried to stay on QL time but it got dark about two hours later than up here so, tried putting DD to bed at 6.30-7ish but it was still full day light and couldnt get her to sleep till about 8.30!!! she would wake up pretty much the same time though. She was so tired when we got home she slept for hours that day and night!!! Thank god we dont have daylight savings!!
guess the ideas for sarting now and slowly changing it are best! hope it works!!
