I know this seems like a really obvious question, and I seriously thought I knew the answer until I started to put together my nappy bag yesterday.
It occurred to me that I actually don't know what I need to put in, and how much of, into a nappy bag suitable for a breastfed newborn.
I figured that as the baby gets older I will know more of what I think I need, but for a brand new mum, with a brand new baby what exactly do I need to carry with me????
In mine I currently have:
* 5 nappies
* travel wipes
* nappy bags (for used ones)
* sample sized nappy cream
* full change of clothes (including singlet, socks)
* beanie (and in summer a hat)
* change pad
* muslin wrap to cover up when breastfeeding
* aquim handwash
* 2 dummies even though she rarely uses them
* cloth nappy for vomit catching!
* wallet, keys, phone
* bottle of water for me (breastfeeding is thirsty business)
We have a blanket permenantly in the pram basket so I don't need to pack on into the nappy bag each time.
I always restock it as soon as I get home that way I know it's ready to go as soon as we are. It's much easier to keep it packed & ready.
Yep with Sarah on this one! What I have also started doing which I wish I had thought of in the beginning, is having a bag in the boot of the car (just using those cloth coles bags ) and in it is extra of everything!! Entire outfit, wipes, nappy bags, spew cloths - my bubbies were shockers! Oh and I use disposable change mats so an extra packet of those, and a bag of nappies. I too restock when I get home but I give myself that added peace of mind that I have back ups for my backups! Hehe, but I am one who can be 'overly' prepared.....which is why I took to the extra bag in the boot rather than over stocking the nappy bag.
Sarah's list is the same as what I had - but I had breastpads and pads for me in there too!!
I'm also a fan of having spare stuff in the car (once we went out and DH & I both thought the other had the nappy bag - lucky I had wipes and spare nappies in the glove box!)
oh yeah and breast pads & pads!! How could I forget!!
I had a friend who'd even carry a whole entire outfit for herself in lieu of baby spew!! I think I only did that once or twice but you'll get to know your bubby really quickly as to whether this is necessary or not. Like I said though, not so much for me.
