    table and chair(s) for kids

I want to buy a childrens table and chair(s) for Milo, and I am going to ikea tomorrow to have a look.

Basically i have two questions - timber or moulded plastic, and chair or stool?

The timber sets have a chair with a back on it, and the moulded sets, which look cuter, only have stools I think.

Is it bad for small children to sit on stools (i.e for their back)?

we have got a step 2 table it cost us around $150 from toy's r us around 7yrs ago and it still looks like new it has been used and used and used. basically it is the plastic (heavy duty) molded and the seats are attached sort of like bench seats - fantastic cause you don't have the possibility of them leaning back and tipping off little seats with backs. this table is used for eating on, doing craft, drawing, playdoh you name it, used every single day and so easy to clean. even my ds who is quite tall and nearly 7 still sits at it every morning to eat his breaky with his sister.

i know that you can get them on ebay to and i wouldn't have a problem buying a 2nd hand one as the quality is brilliant - don't think they would ever break lol. it has a green top and red seats etc.

sorry don't know much about the ikea ones tho.

Thats what I was thinking re the stools as well. the chairs on ebay are the same plastic as the stools at ikea, but proper chairs. So will probably try those!

Thanks for the info everyone, thats exactly the sort of thing I was after.

We brought the wooden set from IKEA (2 chairs, plus table, I think around $60?) and we painted a few layers of varnish over it, to make it easier to clean. Its still going strong (had it for nearly a year)

Sorry I don't know about stools vs chairs with backs.
I personally prefer the ones with backs, but I don't know if they are any better for their backs or not...

    rachael,

if it's the ones I think you're talking about at Ikea, there are ones with backs on them too, not just stools! I know coz that's what I'm getting for Charlie for his birthday (even though he's too young for it still)

The ones with back at a little more expensive, but sooooo cute!

ETA I'll PM you the link to it on their website.
