nappy rash?

DD has developed a red rash in the genital area. It doesn't look like a rash as such, just really red, and she's very irritable. Hates it when we put a nappy on her. We tried using baby powder, bepanthem & sorbelene but these have all flared it up. Everytime she needs to wee or poo she screams. What else could I try? E

It could be thrush or a combo of nappy rash and thrush. You could try some canesten cream, I recommend putting a nappy rash cream over the top to keep it there and also help with the rash. There is a cream Daktozin (I think?) that is both a fungal and nappy rash cream in one, which you could try. With thrush you need to keep on treating for awhile once the rash has gone to ensure it has been treated properly.

My 7 month old DD has what you describe also. I thought it was nappy rash, and i too used Bepathen and Curash to no avail. The clinic informed me it was thrush due to the positioning of the rash (upper vaginal area). Im on my second tube of canesten and whilst its definetly cleared, its still there. DD doesnt find it painful though - well she certainly hasnt let me know that it hurts/is uncomfortable. Ive actually got a GP appt tomorrow.

Hi Jodie_lee - Poor little Nina! I would probably stay away from powder.
I find that pawpaw cream is really good and clears things up pretty quickly. She's pretty young but I find teething can make their poo and wee really acidic and give rash - plus make bubs irritable.
If it doesn't go perhaps go to the MCHN or doctor - it could also be thrush.

I am also a big fan of the Paw Paw Cream . I have heard that powders can make it worse.

Also now it is a little warmer try as much nappy free time as possible. Kaitlyn had terrible nappy rash when her first teeth came though ..and after about 2 hours nappy free time one day ( and lots of wipe down and towel changes!) and paw paw cream it improved heaps ...

Thanks for the tips. Lots of people suggested paw paw cream from another forum as well, so might give that a go. It's so hard to see your little one in pain.
