Ill be watching this thread! I want to know to![]()
I am trying to avoid additives as much as possible at the moment, but I am a bit stumped on pain relief. DD is teething and I made the mistake of giving her panadol orange flavour the other night and boy did we pay for it.
I have been giving her brauers teething relief which is great but after something else also.
Is the panadol colour free ok?
TIA

dunno about panadol, but for teething have you tryed hylands teething tablets? They are all natural and worked a treat with DD and she was a bad teether
yes i do second the hylands tablets but I am after fast pain relief when needed, like brauers, hylands are homeopathic so they have to build up a little bit in body to be useful.
Minny, I tried to get Painstop for DS a few months ago and they wouldn't sell it to me because he is younger than 2! Benefits of a small town I suppose
Ok I just checked and the Ibuprofen we got for DS is labelled "Pharmacist" brand. IT is free from Sucrose, alcohol (That's nice to know lol) gluten, yeast, wheat starch, paracetamol, lactose, artificial colouring and dairy products. I tried to get another bottle the other day and our chemist has none and expects no more for at least 3 weeksMaybe I need to get MIL to go in and get me some Painstop? And why didn't i think of that before??

oh really? It says you can use it from 12 months onwards i havent used it myself but friends of mine have and swear by it
That's interesting Minny, thanks for that info. I will have to go have a look for some next time we are out of town. I used it years ago when DD was little. It knocked her out for a ridiculous amount of time, something like 14 hours i think?? And i didn't even give her a full dose!
I just looked up a website and the reason it made her sleepy shall we say is because it contains codeine, promethazine (an antihistamine), and ethanol. It definately isn't colour free, and those sedating agents is probably why it isn't recommended for the under 2's. Was it the night time one you tried to buy from the chemist Nic because that may be the reason why they wouldn't sell it to you. I can PM you the website if you want as I don't know if I can post it here. It alsosays for use of moderate to severe pain only when paracetamol is not working.
The childrens pain stop unless otherwise indicated is colourfree i cant see where it says it contains promethazine in the childrens one? but does contain codeine as well as paracetemol
I guess if you are interested in trying it ask the chemist?

I was talking about the night time one is that the one you have? I am just going off the ingredients list on the web I'm afraid. Here is the link. Mods please remove if this link is inappropriate

I'd go the teething tablets the painstop sends my son loopy, he has reactions to some presevatives and colors and painstop is one thing I will not give him again ........
Seems the teething tablets are the go. I have never used them myself, but i will give them a go. Would they be strong enough for say.. 2 y.o molors though? Or apart from painstop, is there anything stronger on the market? Mayb a combination of the braurers mixture and the teething tablets would do the trick?
jack never needed anything except for the eye teeth and we used the hylands definate way to go, have actually used them for other pain releif as well over panadol, I never given the quantity they say though I start with one if that doesn't work will give another
Greatthanks Rachel!
When we need to use pharmaceutical pain relief, we use Dymadon. I've never had an issue with it, and they are colour free. It's got an orange kind of flavour, and Jazz seems to like it.
We also use a baltic amber teething necklace which works wonders for JazzHylands were useless for us. But then many say that the necklace did nothing for their kids!
Try as few things maybe and see what works.
