Ds has been rolling over since easter. He first learnt to roll from tummy to back and did this for a few weeks before rolling the other way (from back to tummy).
Since learning the other direction, he stopped completely rolling from tummy to back and hasnt done since, I wasnt too worried as he was rolling the other way ALL the time - couldnt put him down without him flipping over
Now, all of a sudden, he wont roll either way. He hasnt done so since wednesday (so 5 days) and is just happy to lay there when put on the floor. Even when i change is nappy he isnt interested in rolling. Is this normal? Do they just master something then decide well tha'ts it, i know i can do it so i wont bother??? Should i be worried at all?
Cant give you much advice but ill be keeping an eye on this thread as DS also rolled front to back first and stopped when he learnt to roll back to front. It has had me a bit worried. DS doesn't seem to want to roll when he is having his nappy changed although his latest trick is putting his toes in his mouth. Makes things interesting!
Not sure of the 'proper' answer to your question!- but I wouldn't be worried at all! If he's otherwise a happy little chappy and doing well then try not to worry too much, and really his development so far sounds really great so I'm sure everything is fine
(btw our little man never ever rolls from tummy to back).
Apparently yes according to my MHCN - DD1 did this and she said they will sometimes do that. They will master a skill and then move on, like they are bored with it or something.
don't worry, i am pretty sure its normal behaviour. i think sometimes they stop doing one thing so they can concentrate on learning something else!
Ds did the same thing and now he doesn't stop rolling both ways and flips as soon as i try and change him, makes things very interesting! i've now learnt to change him with one of his legs tucked under my arm to stop him rolling!
trust me enjoy it while you can, soon enough they'll be moving everywhere and you won't be able to stop them!
Nai - I guess now he mastered rolling he might want to concentrate on sleeping

jamakin - he he, yes i will enjoy it while he isnt too mobile, although i guess the first few times chasing a naked baby around to change their nappy would be quite amusing.

Aww we had something similar with DD, she rolled from tummy to back from 3 weeks (actual!!) but we think it was because she was so small all ehr weight was in her head so she only need to tip it and she flipped over.
At her 6 month Paed appointment she was still only rolling from tummy to back (not a fan of tummy time at all), he ticked her off for rolling, wasn't concerned at all, following that appointment she stopped rolling at all, she didn't start again for 2 1/2 months!!!
Here we are at 10 1/2 months old and she has never rolled from back to front, she has gone through stages where she will roll to her side, but won't go all the way over - like she is teasing us!!
I have decided to not even bother worrying about it and one day she will do it when we least expect it... would be nice to see her do it jsut once though
She seems to have little desire to get to things, she has a very impressive reach though and if it isn't in reach when she really tries she gives up and goes for something else We keep trying tummy time and putting her toys away from ehr to encourage her to reach and maybe roll or move towards then but the best to date is a bit of comando crawling backwards, so she gets really upset and she moves away from her toys!
I guess we are happy to look at it front the point of view that at least where we put her down she is still in the same position when we look back at her!!
I am sure that your DS is concentrating on learning another skill as he knows he can roll now so he will get back to doing that later!!
My DS 3 rolled at 7 months for the first time.. He did it all day long then he never did it again till he was over 14 months. So I assume it is perfectly normal. He crawled at 9 months and walked at 13 months but honestly he never rolled over again for such a long time.
At 4 months it IMO it is perfectly normal as well to stop rolling for a bit.
DS started rolling at 8weeks, for a few weeks, then completely stopped. Like Beema, I think as he got heavier it became hard for him (that was my theory anyway). He then didn't start rolling again until months later...
You definately don't need to worry. He will eventually start to roll again.
