Okay...DD has eczema. DS had it too, quite badly. I thought I'd gotten off scot-free with DD but nooooo.
I know what worked for DS but before I go down that route once more, I'm on a bit of a chemical free kick at the moment and would like to know if anyone has successfully kept baby eczema under control with natural/organic products.
I had no luck with DS and organic products and I will admit I get quite shirty when people bag out pharmacy products because in the end I believe the greater good is getting the eczema under control. However, I'm willing to give it another whirl with DD.
Product suggestions anyone?? Gaia and Aromababy were useless for DS so I'm particularly interested in hearing about other brands and success stories.
My DD gets patches of eczema on her so not really bad, but I use Calendulis Plus Cream it is a Grahams brand that uses natural ingredients. It works for us.
I used to put 1/2 cup oats in a stocking and put an elastic band around one end and drop 3-4 drops of lavender oil on it, then I would pop it in the tub as it was filling up. It was much gentler on their skin!
Hi
I've had some success with Little innoscents nappy cream, as long as I remember to apply it every time I change ds' nappy.
I got a sample at the parenting expo, but have since bought some.
Good luck
I took DD to a Natropath who cleaned it up in no time at all. As it was DD had issues with here liver not processing correctly (she had jaundice at birth and required special care and had to go in the sunbake machine - I can't remember the technical name for it).
The naturopath gave her some drops and got her liver back in order and the exzma cleaned up and hasn't returned and it was rather bad too.
I use Medihoney Eczema cream. It's based on antibacterial honey and is the only thing that always worked for DD1. If she ever has a flare up, medihoney does the trick. Avail at chemists xo
I tried about 12 different natural products before I gave up and used Elecon. That got rid of it within 48hrs and I have had success since keeping it under control with Moo Goo (natural moisturiser) after each bath, plus Moo Goo shampoo, conditioner and bath wash. She hasn't needed anything else for about 8m.
CrystalBoo that's a good idea, I might get rid of it quickly with what I used for DS and then try and keep it at bay with natural stuff.
I've decided to splurge and try Miessence after all the rave reviews on this site. I've been quite resistant to trying it, partly because of the price...but curiosity has finally gotten the better of me. If that doesn't work I'll go for calendula. I had an idiot ex-boyfriend whose mother swore by calendula for healing. He got his ear pierced and put calendula cream on it and then wondered why the hole was closing up.
LOL not quite sure why I shared that...maybe calendula just reminds me of him and I'm hoping something else will work first ROFL!

that's priceless
The cream that I mentioned above also has Manuka honey in it. I got it from a health food store. I hope you find something that works for your bub. I have tried a few different brands. I wanted to stay away from the steroid creams.

Might not be a bad idea to ask this in Children's Medical Conditions - there is a sticky thread in there with eczema information and a lot of the mums and dads of eczema kiddies post there.
Thanks Schmickers. I had a good look through that thread and couldn't help but note that most people had success with non-natural products...myself included. Oh well.
The other thing is sometimes finding the source of ezcema... Jovie had it but when she went off dairy and soy, it cleared up. Whenever she has something with either in it now, she gets ezcema straight away.
I am thinking of trying the herbal eczema cream made by Tinderbox. It is made from Chickweed and Plantain. My son and I get a bit of eczema too and use elecon (steriodal) at last resort. Sometimes some calendula cream can help if I get it early.
Spoke to soon...DD's eczema has flared up hugely, and so has DH and DS. There is only one culprit that we can pinpoint...change of washing powder to Ecostore.
And it's too far gone for me to wait for the Miessence and Medihoney to have any effect, poor DD is scratching like crazy and making herself bleed and DS' skin feels like that of a lizard.
Sigh. So back to the protocol I devised when DS was a baby...and it's working much more quickly than the Miessence & Medihoney. Nice idea to go organic, maybe when I get them all back to normal I'll switch back again (bar the washing powder).
FYI for anyone interested: I'm using Dermeze cream, Aveeno Skin Relief Bath Oil and Body Wash and washing with Biozet powder
Have you tried olive oil? I've used it & MIL swears by it for BIL.
I also use the QV products. DD2 & DS are both sensitive to soaps.
DD2 gets eczema through winter worst & I just try these, but in the end if it won't clear up like that I do always have cortisone cream on hand.
