Is it ok to wrap over a grobag?

Hi. My DS is 2 months old. We wrapped him to sleep initially but he always got his arms free and seemed to like it that way and slept very well esp at night. Last few weeks his day sleeping has been awful. Difficult to put get to sleep, wakes frequently and very unsettled. His night sleeps have been still good apart from the last week when he has had a cold with a very congested nose. Anyway was putting him in his cot and rocking him/patting him to sleep. He would slowly drift off and his arms would slowly relax until he had a startle and would wake and he kept doing this. I eventually wrapped his arms over his sleeping bag and he has slept much better today. I know the instructions say not to use additional bedding with the grobag but I was wondering if anyone else does this?

My first thought is no i don't htink it would be very safe to wrap over a grobag, but on second thought perhaps a very light muslin wrap would be okay???? Im not really sure as we never wrapped DS. I hope someone else has some better info for you.

I wrap Izzy in her grobag and I use additional bedding. She goes in her 2.5 tog grobag, I then wrap her arms and torso tightly in a muslin wrap, but leave the length of the muslin loose so the bottom of the grobag stays in its shape and she can kick her legs around if she chooses. I then have a sheet and very light cotton blanket over her which I tuck in tightly - all the tightness helps her to feel as if she's being held, which she still really needs at this point. If its a really cold night, then I push a fleece blanket over the top. I guess it all depends on how hot/cold your baby sleeps.

He's only wrapped in a muslin with nothing else on top. And it's in a 1.5 tog grobag. At night he sleeps in just a 2.5 tog. He has a tendancy to get hot rather than cold but he's fine in a 2.5 tog with heater set at 18-20 degrees. I only plan to wrap him during the day so I'll check on him often. I've wrapped him exactly like you do Lulu.

I wrap my 5 month old over the top of her grobag - she also has a sheet and a blanket on. We live in NZ in a cold old house so she doesn't over heat at all.

I've tried to not to wrap her but she needs it as a sleep cue

I had the same prob with Oskar waking himself up with his startle reflex during the day cos he HATES his arms wrapped... after he was about 6 weeks old he fell asleep on his belly one day and slept well, so now during the day he sleeps on his belly but still on his back at night. Strange I know but he won't sleep for long on his side or back during the day but on his belly he'll sleep up to a couple of hours!! Maybe this would help? So long as he can lift his head then he will be ok if you feel comfortable with it.

I wrap Nicholas over the grobag. He doesn't seem to be able to sleep without being wrapped. On really cold nights, I also put a sheet and light blanket over him, but no matter how tight I tuck them in, he has usually kicked them off by morning.

Maybe you also try wrapping under the gobag with something light, like muslin?
I think they can then slip down into the grobag though cant they - so it may be better to wrap over the top?

I need to start doing this too, great thread!! - Izzy always gets her arms out eventually but initially it helps her get to sleep.
