For the last 2 weeks or more Georgia has been waking every 2 hours at night time, I will get 2 nights of sleeping through (by sleeping through I mean bed at 9pm dream breastfeed at 11pm back to sleep wake up at 6am) then 5 nights of waking every two hours.
She has just had both her bottom teeth come through at the same time, she also has not been eating very much in the way of solids so I feel as though she is waking up hungry. I feed her to sleep but today have tried a bit of controlled crying for her day sleeps which has worked pretty well as hard as it is and as crap as I feel. I will still feed her to sleep at night though, so she is relaxed.
I dont really know what else I can do but I am getting so tired getting up every two hours. i dont think my Breastmilk is enough for her to keep her going all night now that she is crawling and pulling herself up onto furniture etc. And not eating very many solids is not filling her up that bit more either.
if she is in pain panadol or hylands teething tablets or brauer teething relief are not helping either.
Could be teeth - DS was the same when he first started teething. Nurofen seems to help sometimes... otherwise all he wanted was boobie ALLL night. Cosleeping was the only way to get through it.
It is rough! Anyone on hand to help out a bit so you can get a bit of rest during the day at least...?
Aw, mate. That is really rough. Natty was the same at 6/7 months old. TBH, I think it is behavioural rather than related to hunger or pain. I think it's likely that she needs the comfort of boob to resettle to sleep. (And we tried a FF before bed JIC it would carry her through longer - firstly, she didn't know what to do with the bottle and when she did seem to drink some it made bugger-all difference).
I reckon you've got three options:
1. Battle on through until the phase passes. (It may take quite some time, but G will not be waking every 2 hours forever.)
2. Co-sleep. You and G will form an arrangement where she can just help herself (I have no personal experience with this though as neither of my girls have settled in bed with me).
3. Teach to sleep. I did this with Natty and yep, it was horrible. But she did learn to sleep all night most nights after about 3-4 days. I wouldn't ever recommend it to anyone - it was a very lonely, depressing time for me. However, I can totally relate to being in that position where you are desperately tired all the time and feel you have no other option. A good place to start is to ring Tressillian's helpline and they will give you some advice and support. You can ring anytime of day or night.
I HTH a little. All the best.
This is a horrible horrible time, Jazz was like that from 4 months to about 2 weeks ago... I felt like I was constantly in a haze, so HUGE HUGS to you!!!! She was waking 5-6 times a night, and wanted too feed constantly (we co-slept).
I could put it down to a million things... teeth, growing pains, maybe my milk wasn't keeping her up, maybe the solids were keeping her up, was she having trouble with a food she was eating, I was eating, was she too cold, too hot, getting trappen in the blankets, bad dreams.... oh boy the list went on and on and one ...
Thing that have seemed to help us:
We started the No-Cry Sleep Solution routine at the end of July, we have been consistant. It has NOT been easy, or a quick fix. It took a good month to get any result. BUT we have a result. And in the scheme of things (my opinion) one month of gentle techniques was much better (for us) than a few days of letting her cry it out until she realised we wen't going to come to her anymore.
We also got an Amberbebe Amber teething necklace, and within 24 hours, she started sleeping all night, bar one wake-up between 1-3am. Conincidence? Hmm, well we tried her without it, and she woke 4 times, and wanted feeding every time!!!!!
Will be back in the morning (feeling hazy, been a long day!). Hope tonight is better
aww leasha thanks for your reply, I remember reading some of your posts about Jazz you poor thing. I feel like I have tried everything, extra blanket off extra blanket on and all the others that you mentioned etc.
I dont know alot about the amber necklaces so I might go and research that a bit now. I am willing to give anything a go. I think she is having a little trouble with her teeth as she has been rubbing her tongue on her gums all the time.
Snacks - thanks for your advice, I try not to put Georgia in bed with me until after 5am, I find I dont sleep very well if she is in there with DH and I but once he goes to work and she can go on his side of the bed then we sleep fine. I dont know how people do it all night I am a belly sleeper so I find it hard.
