Milo is teething (2yo molars) and has been grizzly and unhappy, not sleeping at night, teething poos etc for a few weeks now. He's also had ear infections.
Over the weekend he had a few days of temperatures, not really high, but high 38s.
Then on Monday mum rings me at work and says he is covered in a red bumpy rash and I should come home.
Rash is not bumpy (but mum says it was earlier) all over his back from neck to bum, on the back of this thighs.
Doctor says its "very unremarkable" and not a problem, but that he thinks he's getting over an ear infection.
So anyway that night was fine, no temp, and he slept trhough the night (yay).
Yesterday the rash on his back has faded but there are bumps and blothes all over his face, head, forehead etc, and they were still there this morning.
Back to the doctors - its probably viral - and his ear infectio is now nasty, so was probably starting not finishing, and may explain why he wouldn't sleep longer than 20mins at a time last night.
Any ideas? They had nothing to offer to offer other than 'it might be viral'.
When mum first rang me I thought it might be Roseola, but then wouldn't his temp have been a lot higher than high 38s?
aw, for any future grandmas or babysitters -- if you ring the childs parents to report a rash, try not to open with 'do you know anyone who's had measles?' as it scares the crap out of them.

Wow Ray you and Milo are having a time of it.
Often I& N will come out in a rash, fine spots on their trunk when they have had a viral infection. After a few days it disappears.
Did the doc put Milo on Antibiotics for his ear? Perhaps he has had some kind of reaction?
Sorry I can't be of any more help but I am thinking of you.
Thanks Tiggy.
the rash came before the antibiotics, and the antibiotics are for the ear infection. TBH I reckon he has built up an immunity to amoxyl, I hope they have given him something else.
I'm thinking of starting him on a probiotic.
Sorry I can't help with the rash... there seem to be so many rashes that babies get which can't be explained, and are usually put down to a 'viral' rash...
Aidyn developed a rash one week after his MMR, but he was on AB's at the time as well, so we have no idea whether either of those factors was a cause, or if it was related to something else...
I do hope it goes away soon though, and that Milo is feeling heaps better.
We had problems with similar sounding rash which turned out to be diagnosed as hives (I'm yet to find out what is causing it!)
I know hives wouldn't cause the temp but maybe the temp is from the ear infection and rash a totally unrelated thing?
It is hard as Ambah said there are so many rashes and things that just can't be explained. Does it seem to be affecting Milo? He appear itchy or anything?
thats just it, becuase of the ear infection its hard to say how its affecting him cos he's a bit unhappy anyway. It does not seem itchy, and they don't look big enough for hives (but might be?)
I know my gf used to get hives from too much vitamin C. Milo doesn't have any citrus or ribena or anything really high in it though, and I don't know what else causes them.
Hmm. I guess I will just keep an eye on him (DH and nanna are home with him today)
Definately sounds like Roseola to me...my DS has just had it himself. He had temps in the high 38's -39 for a few days and then as soon as the temp dissappears the rash appears!! Very common in infants and up to 2 years of age!!
Hayley, how long did the rash last for?
Yeah I thought it might be that, but I figured the doctor would have mentioned it.
His rash seems to be calming down a bit now, so heres hoping it will be gone in a day or so.
My DS still has a faint '*****ly' rash after 3 days, but it is slowly dissappearing. The rash is harmless, it is the temp that is the worrying part. When my first DD had the same thing my GP said the rash was a good sign as the body is starting to recover.
As long as your LO is eating, drinking and generally 'happy' I wouldn't be too concerned
