    partially descended testicle

Hoping someone can give me some information on this, or tell me of their experiences.

Sam was born at 36 weeks, with one testicle only partially descended. Every time we've seen the paed, he's ummed and ahhed over it and told us to keep an eye on it and come back and see him in 6 months.

One doctor who has checked it says we're ok because it's down out of the body cavity, even if it isn't down where it's supposed to be. Another doctor just thinks he has a really strong retraction reflex. But there's been times when I've checked and haven't been able to find the troublesome one... other times where they're both up high and times where one is down quite low and where it's meant to be if all things are normal.

The paed says we're ok as his scrotum is wrinkly (apparently if he lacked the wrinkles we'd have more trouble), but once again gave us the come back in 6 months spiel today. If it's not down properly by the time Sam's 18 months old he'll refer us to a surgeon to get it fixed properly. He also said I could have the referral now if I'm really worried...

I am worried. I don't know whether it's just me being super-sensitive to anything that may impact on my son's future fertility after we had to go through 18 months of hellish IVF to get him...

Part of me just wants to get it fixed, thinking that the quicker the better and the less impact it is likely to have on him later in life... but the other part of me is thinking that it would be a bad thing to put him through surgery if it's just going to eventually fix itself with time.

Luke was born with one teste his ball sack was quite firm if that helps

we went sent for a scan at 2 days old to see if it was there or in the (can't think of name) tube that they come down or if it had died etc... for us it was visible on scan and told y=to leave it if not decended at 6-9mths they would look at surgery ours (well lukes) was down at 6 week check

anyway long story short one teste apparently wont affect fertility etc, that was our first concern when it wasn't there as well, we had the scan to see if it could be seen, have you been offered this, the main concern with the teste being undecended is if it is in the stomach cavity (NOW DONT FREAK!!!!) it can become a cancerous growth when the child is older this is very rare but can happen yes I know how yoru feeling now I went thru this... anyway I would be requesting a scan of the region to see if it can be seen

the op itself is nothing major my friends little boy had it at 18mths, yes its a general very small procedure tiny slit the teste is pulled down and stitched into place

HTH remember dont freak about the cancer its rare but its something to think about

We haven't been offered a scan - I guess because it's down far enough to be felt. It tends to sit right at the top of the scrotum - I think I've only seen it down in the scrotum at one nappy change in his entire 13 months! Not that I do all of them - DH does a lot of them for me. It can be manipulated down... I'm just not sure if it can be got all the way down.

So, I guess it's down far enough not to be of immediate concern, but not far enough to be considered normal. Sam's scrotum seems extremely small... I see other mums at mothers group needing to lift their son's scrotum out of the way to clean up properly at nappy changes... There's no "dangle" to Sam's at all. This makes me feel like even the one that they say is down isn't down far enough.

And now I'm extremely ... I wonder how Sam will feel when he's older knowing that his mother has discussed his genitalia in such detail on the internet!
