We are having a little party and I'm trying to figure out the food.
Want to keep it pretty simple and vaguely healthy (although it is a birthday...so I don't want to be a food nazi!)
So far I'm thinking of some 'favourites'"
fairy bread (I know...very naughty...but I love it!)
homemade sausage rolls
fruit kebabs
'little boys'...maybe! Thought I could do mini hotdogs in dinner rolls
antipasto platter for parents
any other ideas?
Also...any ideas for treat bags...so they aren't all lollies? I've bought some mini-playdohs to put in the bags...but don't want them getting too over-the-top...
Cupcakes always go down a treat (even if the kids mostly lick off the icing!). I tend to do them in the baby patty size for that age.
Also savoury muffins, which can also be done in mini size - ham/cheese/chives is yummy. Or you could do some "sweet" muffins like banana or banana and choc chip.
As for the "lolly bags", adding a balloon always provides lots of fun. At Coles in their party/toy section they have a range of their own brand toys for around $2 per packet and I find that you can get great fillers there. My favourite is a pack of 5 bouncy balls for $2 (altho depending on the age of the other kids they could be a bit small). Or they also have My Little Pony copies - 2 for $2, once again better for the older kids but still perhaps worth a look. Oh and if you can find the packs of mini bubbles they are good too.
Monnie, we did a sausage sizzle as the main food and then we had some fruit, fairy bread (it's a must really isn't it!) ummm some different dips/spreads with a variety of crackers and some chips. In the party bags... lol forgot to give them out anyway, you can get small little boxes of sultanas - they come in a bag of 12 I think in the same area where you get normal boxes of sultanas etc. They also have little packs of mixed dried fruits and similar things. Have fun - it's soooo much fun for their first party!!
Hey Hun,
I went to a cool first birthday and for lolly bags they gave a jar of baby food, a teething rusk in packet, a pacifier holder (not that DS has a dummy, but anyway...) and a baby juice. I thought it was cool cos it was for him and not for us! Although I was looking forward to eating the lollies myself, so when I do mine I will put something in for the mums
