DD2 has had to have it every day since she was born, there are days i forget to give it to her but i haven't had too much trouble with it.. she knows what it is IYKWIM.
She gagged on itt he first couple of times.
Not sure where to put this.
Has anyone ever had a bub that has been required to be on penta-vite?? (multivitamin)
Its horrible stuff and the smell is vomit worthy and DD just threw up all over me and she'd just had her dose of penta-vite.
Grrr!!!

Yep, but my little one spat it out every time and eventually i just gave up.
It does make them posset, the nurses in SCN told me that (and it seems to be true). DS stopped getting it after awhile, once he started eating meat and other solids. Pretty much all prem babies end up on Pentavite, though not all prem mums are vigilant about giving it. I think they do especially like IUGR babies to have it though

Dd1 had it for a year, Ds is meant to but I forget. They all get in when they are run down. It can be tricky to get them to take it, we use a nurofen dispenser and put it on the side of their mouth. Works most times.
My nephew had to take it and My older sister gave a half dose morning and half dose at night. If she gave the full dose all at once he'd vomit everytime!
DD has it due to her prematurity. I can't say I remember 100% of the time. She's also on a liquid iron supplement. She hates the Pentavite and I usually end up wearing most of it.
DD is on liquid iron as well. I was told to never give penta-vite straight cause bubs can choke on it and stop breathing. So, we always mix it with a bottle.
I've washed my hands but I can still smell it!!
DD is breastfed so no opportunity to get it into a bottle, but TBH I was advised by the hospital to just administer it orally with the syringe. Same way we give infant panadol etc. I guess there is always a possibility they can aspirate anything.
The smell is gross...and it stains so badly. Blerk. I'm hoping the boobyjuice is giving her what she needs LOL!
In hospitals its just given orally via syringe.
Yes it stinks and bleh stains everything.
yep twins were on it for 12 months and liquid iron as well due to prem and IUGR
i got wise and put bibs on them when i gave it to them and that made a difference to the amount of stains lol
i also gave it to them in between feeds and that stopped the amount of throw ups!
DS was on it too. stopped it when he went onto solids anyway. kept forgetting to give it to him! but if it helps, we used to add it to his bottle of either EBM or formula (once he decided the bottle was more fun then mummies breast!!!) and it made it more bearable for him to drink it.
I have always wondered why they felt the need to make it 'fake pineapple' flavour . . . what baby needs 'fake pineapple'???? Why not make it more plain but still sweet enough to encourage them to drink it?
Both boys have it & their liquid iron straight out of the syringe, Charlie had it until he was nearly 12 months & Archer is still having it now.
I agree, Pentavite is GROSS, it stinks & stains the benches! Plus, the syringes seem to get 'sticky' after a few weeks & the lid falls off, spilling the whole bottle over whatever you are holding at the time. . . usually
Archer. .. or my mobile
