    Pincer grip?

I saw the MCHN today who said that DS should have developed the pincer grip by his age (ie. able to pick up a small object between his thumb & forefinger). So tonight I gave him some sultanas & he doesn't use the pincer grip - he uses his middle finger as well (ie. 3 fingers instead of 2).

I just assumed he would be able to do it - so I didn't ask her what to do if he couldn't! Is there anything I should be doing to help him develop this? (feed him lots of sultanas?? )

I personally would have thought that that was still the pincer grip, 1 finger or 2 fingers, its still pincer like...but thats my perception of it, i could be wrong...
Did the MCHN actually say he hadnt developed it yet??

No - she asked me if he had developed it & I said I didn't know. She said to give him something small to eat (like a sultana) & watch how he picks it up. She said that he should be able to do it using two fingers - not using all his fingers. But he uses 3.

i wouldnt worry about it... it isnt like he is using his whole hand or anything. maybe give him lots of small things to eat while you prep dinner (i found peas, sultanas, corn good) and he will eventually use 2 fingers...
