Miss 18m DD has been having shocking poo's lately, a orangey, browny slooshy mess. They are runny quite a lot. But it doesn't seem to bother her, she still eats (healthy) and drinks loads of water (which I now put in one of those filter drugs) sleeps well, plays... The only concern is her nasty number twos!
What could it be? Is it normal, I thought they were mean to be more formed now?
I'm off to the doctors this afternoon with her, but wanted to get a few opinions from you ladies.
My DS had foul runny poos from about 12 months (just after the MMR - freaked me out hugely) until around 18 months. No matter what I fed him (he eats well, no junk etc) it made no difference and I was going crazy.
The paed did all the usual poo tests and alll were fine - he put it down to "toddler diarrhea" which is apparently very common but very unhelpful to us mums.
During this time though he was popping heaps of teeth (including molars) and while he had no other teething symptoms, once he finished with those teeth the poos went back to normal.
Good luck, I know how much it drives you up the wall, especially trying to change a sloppy nappy with wandering hands and kicking legs!
So the doctor is going to do a poo test to make sure she has caught any yukky bugs.
And in the mean time he has advised us to try her on lactose intolerant milk. And hope that it makes a difference.
Well, I am thinking the soy milk is a hit!
She did a formed poo today! :yay: This hasn't happened for a while! Now i feel bad for not thinking about it earlier! But I am glad we might have the answer to her sloppy poo problem!
DD has a bug in her bowel, starts with G but can't remember it. It lives in water and water bound. She is on a course of ABs and hopefully that will clear her up. Dr said because there has been an improvement using the soy milk, we're to keep using that and after her course of ABs try her on some normal milk and see what the effects are.
In 2m(or sooner if there is still a problem) we have to retest her poo.
DS had the exact same thing... sometimes the poos are quite offensive in smell too?
The ABs 'should' clear it up
If you have any other questions feel free to PM me!!
The other thing you might want to consider if the ABs don't have the desired effect is whether she has enough fat (especially animal fat / protein), and iron in her diet. DS has been prone to what we term butt vomit, and would poo up to six times a day at three years of age, we thought it was acidic food that was the problem and cut tomatoes and most fruit, but have noticed a huge improvement (to the point that we have re-introduced everything else back into his diet with no ill effect) since making his diet high in red meat. We previously ate red meat rarely. We had thought that it may be lactose intolerance but it seems that he needs a high fat/iron diet. His dad is the same - he has IBS and was at his worst when vegan, he had to re-introduce red meat for his health. Lactose intolerance should show up in samples too. Oh, and after an extended course of ABs it's not uncommon to have a period of lactose intolerance as the ABs bugger around with the bacterial balance in the gut, probiotics can also help with this. According to my doctor, it can take around six weeks for this to subside following an extended course of ABs.
