    reaction to immunisations

Just wondering if anyone's baby has reacted to their immunisations? My 2 month old bub was immunised yesterday and although sh does not have a fever or anything, she is excessively sleepy and not feeding well at all. She is taking under half her quota per feed (she is FF) and I am starting to worry that she won't get enough food in.
If you have experienced this, how long did it last and when do you think I should call the dotor?

My DD NEVER sleeps during the day but after her 2 month immunisation was REALLY sleepy and had lots and lots of day sleeps!

She was fine after about day 3 although I think she still had sore legs, so we gave panadole for that. It was a good week before she was back to her old, happy self though.

We didn't really have a reaction to the 4 month needles, even though they're the same. Wierd.

It would probably be a good idea to make sure she's having plenty of wet nappies though, so she doesn't dehydrate.

Chels was fine with 2 and 4 month needles.. never reacted... maybe a lil bit off sleeping.. but no real issues. However with her 6 month ones she reacted, grizzly, temp, not sleeping, not feeding..was just a terror to put it nicely. Took her about 5 days to get over it.

Taia was really sleepy after her jabs too! She didn't have much milk but that soon picked up after a few days! If she doesn't start to eat more soon then maybe go see the doc!

Annika has reacted to her shots every time. She gets a higher than average fever with them, so I really have to keep and eye on that. She is also a lot sleepier usually, and not quite as hungry, which is the way most adults would react when they are sick.

She also came out in a rash on her belly and legs within 10 minutes of having the shots. That almost gave me a heart attack. All of a sudden the nurse was ripping her clothes off, and the doctor came running. Turned out to be nothing, thank God. She also gets the big red lumps on the injection site, which later turn into bruises. She's still got a slight bruise from her 4 month injections, and she's already 7 months!!!

I know it's hard not to worry, but I think bubs will be just fine. If you are worried though, you can always call the immunisation hotline. There should be info on the number inside your baby health record. I hope she feels better soon!

Thank so much ladies. After posting my question I did some research and among the top side effects to immunizations are fever, irritability, excessive tiredness/sleepiness and loss of appetite... but all should clear up within 48 - 72 hrs. So hopefully by the morning I will have my chirpy, hungry princess back!

Although you are feeling better and have found the research you need - I thought I would post my experiences with 2, 4, and 6 month immunisations.

At 2 months he was whingy and irritable, 4 months he was sleepy sleepy sleepy, and 6 months was no noticeable reaction!

I hope you have you happy bubba back soon!

Adrian has always reacted to his needles with a high temp that now the medical staff recommend to give him Panadol 30 minutes before then another dose 4 hours later, last time around that worked for him.

How is she feeling today? I hope she`s a lot better for you, vaccinations are just awful

Well today she was up and down - still very drowsy and only woke once over night instead of twice. She also slept 6 hours during the day ( 3 x 2 hours). But she took bigger feeds than yesterday (still well below her quota)...so I hope that tomorrow we will be 100% but I guess it may take longer. I just hope she doesn't lose too much weight.
I never thought it would be such a big deal! Thanks for all your replies girls, makes me feel better that my princess isn't alone in feeling a bit unwell after her shots

I hope she is back to normal soon! DS was very sleep after his 2 and 4month immunisations. I remember the 2 month ones becuase I had a breastfeeding day stay the following day at RWH. He slept 14 hours the night he had the shots, and when I got to the b/f stay, he wouldn't feed and then fell asleep, and slept for 5 hours! So not much feeding got done and when he did wake up, be wouldnt feed and went back to sleep after about 15 minutes

HI Rayray...that sounds just like DD. Even today - 3 days after, she is still very tired and I can only keep her up for about 1 1/4 hrs at a time. She is very slow to take her food too - took me over 45 mins to get 125mls into her! But she did wake twice in the night last night (not that I like getting up but I guess it means her appetite is slowly returning), though she only had small feeds each time - about 40mls less than usual. She's still doing wet nappies etc so I guess we just have to ride it out!

my son ended up in hospital after his first vaccination. he was given his 2 month vacc at 4 months, each vacc was 2 months late due to him being a premmie. in the end, i'd take him to the hospital for his shot and they'd keep him in overnight with a fever and on fluids because he was taking only a quarter of what he needed. i think at the time he was on 35mils per 3 hours, and was only taking 10mls, which dehydrated him.
sounds like such a small amount, but for a bub who started on 1 mill per hour, its a huge amount lol

my daughter was quiet and a little off for a day or two afterwards, but that was all
