I'm a bit late but our DS2 had colic (diagnosed by pediatrician) - he did not sleep unless held or rocked for the first 13 weeks of his life (well, first 13 weeks at home, he was in hospital for 4 weeks because he was 6 weeks premature). DH took time off and at night we took turns - someone would sleep while the other held DS2 or rocked him in bouncy chair...sometimes he'd actually fall asleep and we'd get a 4 hour block where no one needed to rock or hold - that was huge and not the norm during this time! I did do most feeds but pumped at 9 so DH could do the next one. It was the worst 13 weeks of my life. DS1 was nothing like this. We got a sitter during some days to help with DS1 (our regular sitter who he knows and loves) - this helped a fair bit. Sometimes I used the sitter to watch/hold DS2 so I could do something with DS1...something that didn't involve driving as I was not fit to drive. DH helped a lot, but we also fought a lot - we were both so tired. I think the fighting is almost inevitable when you are that sleep deprived.
Right when we could see that DS was growing out of the colic as he became a bit more settled (as in less crying/seemed to be less uncomfortable), I had a woman who was recommended come and help us with settling (I'm Bayside Melbourne which may be close to you). She was FANTASTIC - her program worked like a charm and did not involve excessive crying (as in, not more than 2 minutes which - I'd say it involved no more crying than the amount of crying that could go on if I decided to shower or use the toilet at what seemed like a good time but turned out to be the "wrong" time). If you are interested PM me.
DS2 was clearly craving sleep...he quickly started sleeping his 3 naps and all night (with 2 feeds at first - I'd get a 5-6 hour stretch but often it was the early stretch so it didn't really help with my sleep, then down to 1...now he's 7.5 months and he sleeps through about 50% of the time and 50% still wakes for a feed...even when doing her program, I chose to continue to feed on demand at night even though I could have tried settling without feeding).
DS2 is now a happy, rested baby...but I still remember thinking we had made a mistake when we were in the middle of it all...
Tasha- how have you been doing? You been MIA lately and has me wondering if you and bubs are ok
Thinking of you too, darling. I hope things are improving.
Been wondering if you're ok xx
Tasha we've all been wondering about you oxo
Hopefully things have improved, if not we are all ears hun.
Has anyone heard from Tasha?
I'm worried :(
Ive been wondering too.
Hope you're ok hun. If not please reach out. Were here to support you. No judgement, just support.
Hope you're ok x
Hope you are ok, does anyone have her on fb?
not that I know of.. her profile says she hasnt been online BB since the 15th..
She's probably fine, she may have taken the road of CC or formula or something similar to try and get bub sleeping and doesn't want to post because everyone here (myself included) have told her how normal her experiences with her baby are and she doesn't want to feel judged. If that's the case Tasha, we're here to support you no matter what, as this thread shows :)
No judgment. Just care and concern.
:heartbeat:
You know, sometimes people don't feel like posting or even coming on to BB. Shocking, but true :p
True, but after thread after thread asking for help and advice, I guess people are just worried about how she's travelling. I am, so if you're out there Tasha, I hope you're feeling happier, because you're awesome
That's true N2L I disappeared for a year but Tasha was on here everyday, nothing wrong with checking she is ok.
Hi girls, I hope Tasha doesn't mind me saying but I have heard from her. Things are still hard but she is doing her very best. She will post when she's up to it.
Tasha sweetheart, as I've said I'm nearby if I can do anything xo
Thanks so much, nirenotrom - I hope she doesn't feel pressure to post or perform from our recent flurry of concern - I know I for one am happy just to know that she's plugging along, and doing ok.
But we're here and available and thinking of her, when she's ready.
Please pass on our love? She's doing a good job.
:grouphug:
Thanks niretrom, if you speak with her send her big hugs from all of us :)
How are things going now Tasha?
I was just thinking of you today too, lovely xx
Hope you're well.
Thanks peanutter, I am well :)
Gosh, looking back on all these posts, I really was a mess. It was scary :( But I am doing much better now, things have settled into a nice routine and we are happy. I have always been someone who thrives on routine and order, so having a newborn was particularly hard for me i guess. And I am happy to report that DD started sleeping through around 14 weeks. She still wakes a couple of times some nights, but it's the dummy falling out (Argh, I know!) But I am feeling back to my old self, nice and rested :) ( I can even sneak in a nice glass of baileys on ice after I put her down now that she's dropped the night feeds  )
Once again I really appreciate all the support given. I just decided that I would wing it on my own :)
So great to read this Tasha. Im glad everything fell into place for you. :)
It is fabulous to hear you're doing so well now Tasha, you sound so positive and happy! Keep up the good work!
Thats fantastic news!!!! Well done! :D
Wow sleeping through already! SO good to hear from you. She might - or will probably - slip back into waking a bit at night occasionally when she's older as she goes through development milestones, teething etc but it is ALWAYS temporary. Yay Tasha welcome back.
Good for you Tasha!! Sometimes too much info and too many opinions just makes it all a bit much when you're struggling.
So glad to hear you're feeling a lot more confident... Trust your instincts and you'll be fine!
Thanks for checking back in! Good to hear you are getting some sleep and feel better x
Great to hear from you. Fantastic news!!
So good to hear you're doing so well. Glad things are going great guns for you :)
