She hates having a blanket/sheet on her..what am I going to do in winter??

Has been getting quite cold here overnight, had to put fllanny pj's on DD tonight because inside the house is so cool, and she just refuses to have a blanket or even a sheet over her legs. I wasn't so worried in summer, but now it's getting colder and I don't know what to do! She's fine if I put a blanket over the top of her when she is in a deep sleep, but in a light sleep she'll start grizzling and wriggling around until it falls off/I take it back off, and if she is awake as soon as it touches her she kicks and wriggles it off.
Last winter she was still using grobags, but she's outgrown the ones she had and I don't think she'd like being back in them, just before I stopped using them she'd wriggle her legs around in them like mad until she fell asleep. Even when she is in bed with me I can't put anything on her so just have to hope my body heat is enough to keep her warm! I'm also wondering if that's why she's started waking up earlier (about 2am, when just a few weeks ago she was sleeping until at least 4, and had about a 4 night streak of sleeping until 6/7).

Any suggestions??

We have the same problem, except DD kicks and kicks and kicks until those blankets are gone thankfully ours is only for a few weeks until we light the fire but in that time we do 'layers' singlet or summer jumpsuit under pjs and tucked into socks if needed. We generally dont need the socks, but DD is a hot bod

I've been thinking the same thing as DS is in the same boat. Can't put anything on him unless he's in a deep sleep and even then when he wakes up it's off within minutes, we tried a grobag once and he was like a frog in a sock! We couldn't even wrap him as a new born baby. I've decided to dress him really warm in the winter and to put the oil heater on in his room during the winter.

this is what we use for wriggle monster. You can get them from best and less or target for about $20 and they go up to a size 6 I think.

Yep - the sleep suits with legs! They are brilliant - both my girls have worn them and they go up to bigger sizes at Target.

I was just coming in to mention these - i sent mum hunting for a dressing gown for DD, and she called to mention the all in one B-sleepers. they go up to size 6 in target. $24 each. DD will tolerate blankets, but only just. She's not a fan. it's meant we have to keep the house warmer for her, and then i can't sleep cos it's warm (i like snuggling in the doona - can't do that if it's warm lol)

These ones are fleece, so would be pretty warm if you get very cool. no sure how it would go with the transitional weather or if your bub co-sleeps at all. I'm kinda hoping if she is warm she won't wake in the night and co-sleeping part of the night will be a thing of the past...

My DD exactly the same still at age 4!
When she was up to 2ish we would use the fleecy sleeping bag suits from kmart, Target or big w but also put a wondersuit underneath and singlet!
I've also heard of putting 2 wondersuits on too.
DD would sleep through all winter from a young age.

We have this issue too! If it's a mild night dd can sleep through till 6am but most nights she climbs in with us at 2am and her limbs are freezing! She kicks off any covering, even in our bed, but you're right...the body heat must help.

Last winter we used sleep suits, which are polar fleece with arms and legs (and feet) all in one and we used to put pjs on under them...the brand was snug time I think...dd just thought they were pjs and they kept her toasty...I had to take them off her when she came into our bed though because she would overheat.

It's funny, the few people I know whose babies religiously sleep through have climate control and gro bags...I often wonder if dd would have slept better if I could manage her temp better...but then again, babies are designed to be with their mum, so in my bed seems to be the best place for her anyway.

DD didn't even sleep through with grobags Friend of mine has a 4 week old and apparently she has been sleeping through already...I don't want to feel like a biatch but I am jealous!!

Am going to have to get her some new pj's, but do they make the pj's with feet in say size 2? Bearing in mind we only have Target to shop at..might have to search online. Our house gets freezing, particularly early in the morning so I don't think one layer of pj's is going to do it if she refuses to have a blanket, but it's the kind of cold you need a blanket or two to stay warm.
DF is on me about stopping co-sleeping because apparently that is why she isn't sleeping through, a whole other issue I guess, but maybe if she wasn't getting cold she might start sleeping a bit longer by herself.

Funnily enough she had been having a sheet/blanket over her when I stopped using grobags at the end of winter last year, it was too warm to use a grobag but still a bit too cool to have nothing and she seemed fine with it then, but now she just can't stand it. I don't understand cause I love nothing more than snuggling up under my doona!

ss_storm, DD slept through from when we bought her home until about 4 months. After having that awesome little sleeper, I was up 9 times a night between 6 and 10 months so their time will come to be up ALL night, believe me!
Target here has those onesie things in VERY large sizes, like 4 or up ( not sure if they have the feet though?

Same problem here too. DS hates anything on him and will wake straight away if not with in minutes of me trying to put something on him even just a muslin wrap draped over his legs. DS had grobags last winter and has always, and still is, waking between 5 and 10 times a night so no joy there for us. Oh and he sleeps with me if they're gonna sleep they're gonna sleep, or not

we went thru this too (even though bilby was wrapped so much as a tiny bub).

first it was cotton sleeping bags ($12 at big w), cotton ribbed, like a ribbed teeshirt. no sleeves. pjs underneath. those cotton sleeping bags went up to a size 2, and i have a very short child, so that worked longer than it would for other children.

then i found out about "blanket sleepers" - like an all in one pj outfit with feet - i found ones of those available to buy in AUstralia (Snugtime or something like that) - but they were only in polar fleece, and my child overheats in polar fleece stuff. Then i found COTTON blanket sleepers, but only in countries where it snows, like USA, Canada. Lucky enough to score some from a US expat living in Australia, selling them 2nd hand. i think if your child goes to the toilet multiple times per night, the fastenings would drive you batty, but bilby held on all night, so it worked for her.

Now, she's four, still got same problem. Dress her in warm pjs with singlet tucked in. Use knitted bedsocks that look more like gigantic booties, with the tie around the ankles. Unlike her socks, they stay on ALL night. and she loves them. We used the oil heater in her room too. Been told recently, not wanting bedding on her, might be a sign of Sensory Processing Disorder or something like that. (long story, but all her "issues" relate to teh senses).

i think it's a matter of trying everything you can think of/have access to - and keep going with whatever YOUR child will

- stop your child feeling like an icicle in the morning

took me a few years, to find someone to knit bilby her big sleep booties, (i can barely knit a scarf ha ha). That was the one idea i was positive WOULDN"T work, but she loved them - still does.

My DD has always been the same, hating coverings of any type, but she got a bit cold one night about 2 weeks ago and has been really into blankets ever since. She had a tantrum the other night because I didn't put a cover over her when I put her in her cot (I thought she was practically asleep) even though her room was 28 degrees!

We've had the same problem here. We bought wollie all in ones with feet, target has them (up to like size 5) and they keep ds toasty warm. We put a singleton underneath as well. Stopped him waking up when it was getting cold here a few weeks back
