Thudguard...a bit odd or really useful?

So I came across thing thing called the "Thudguard" (not sure if I can post other websites on here, but its all the w's and then thudguard.com.au).

Its basically a helmet for your child while they are learning to walk. Very wierd name.

Is it just me, or is there something a little odd about it? I can't put my finger on it.

But then, maybe when DS is learning to walk I will freak out and want to build him a whole suit made out of the plastic bubbly stuff. Not having a walker yet, I just don't know.

Just curious what others opinions are!

Seems like an idea to make more money out of nervous parents IMO.

Kids fontanelles aren't fused for a reason, so they can take knocks and bumps.

Waste of money if you ask me.

hehehehe...hmmmm, I think this may just be another ploy for someone to make some money out of us paranoid mummies!! I don't think children need to be wearing helmuts to learn to walk, LOL. Maybe for physically or mentally impaired children it would be of great use...but the average child needs to trip and fall and even occasionaly may have to bump their head...its all part of normal development.

By the way...I didn't look at the website, so I don't know who they are marketing these "thudguards" at.

we have survived for 1000s of years without them - and have all learnt to walk relatively unharmed! DS bumps his head at least once a day - he gets over it within a minute (so long as he has a cuddle & a distraction)

Seems a bit odd to me. Saying that though I may change my mind when DS gets to the walking age!

Having just gone through the learning to walk stage with my son, I'd say they are a complete waste of money. DS had a few tumbles in the first few weeks but not often did he hit his head, more so falling on his bum! I agree that kids need to have a few knocks to learn to be a little cautious and the helmet could give them a false sense of security, so what happens when it comes time to lose the helmet??
Anyway, just my opinion

definately a waste of money, ds has been walking for 3 weeks now and hasn't hit his head once while walking. TBO i was more worried about him hitting his head when he was learning to sit by himself than when he started walking. And there is no way in hell my son would want that helmet on his head anyway, its hard enough to get him to keep a hat on lol
