Nurses - How do I open the oral vit K

When we were in the hospital the midwive showed me how to open the vial of vitamin K "Just put your thumb here & snap" but now he's 28 days old and due for the last dose I can't get the bleeding thing open. I put my thumb there, but it doesn't snap. Can anyone give me a hint?

I'm thinking I'll go to the chemist and see if they can do it for me, or would i be better to wait till tomorrow when the CHN is there?

They can be stubborn little things sometimes. Do you have an alcohol swab or bandaid in the wrapper handy? If you do put that over the top and break it the way you were shown but with a little bit more force. The swab/bandaid will protect your fingers.

Usually the little ampule will have a little white dot on the bottom of the top bit you snap off. Thats the side you put your thumb on to push it and it should break easier. With one hand tilt the bottom in the opposite direction to the other hand thats trying to snap it if that makes sense. I am with Liviam they can be tricky little things to snap open takes some force sometimes and care not to cut your finger in the process.
