DS has cradle cap - it's not horrible, but I'd like to do what I can for him...at bath time I've been putting olive oil on his head and massaging it in with a special hair brush made for this purpose (it's very gentle)...any other suggestions?
this may sound strange, but i find the body shop brazil nut body scrub is great at removing it (and smells great too). But that was for a rather serious dose - I haven't tried moogoo yet.
I have zinc and caster oil cream that I put on bub's bottom after a bath at night and if he looks a little red at any other time. I also put it on if he looks like he has dry skin/rashy from sweat or not drying properly like behind the ears etc. Anyway DS had the mildest case of cradle cap and I put that on and I thin it went away in 2 days. I don't have a brush either so just used to scrub his head with the towel when drying.
Olive oil should work well for normal cradle cap. Rub it on, let it sit, and comb through the hair with a fine tooth comb. Just make sure you rinse it off after 15 min or so, or his face will break out.
In some cases (as I've just discovered with my DS) there can be a fungus causing the cradle cap, so if it won't clear up after the olive oil treatment, you might want to see your doctor about it. My poor little guy had terrible scaling, flaking, cracks, oozing, and he scratched it bloody. It was really sad for him. We've just about got it all cleared up now with special shampoo once a week, and some hydrocortisone ointment.
I'm a fan of Moogoo products too but hadn't discovered them way back when DS had cradle cap. I washed his scalp with QV bath oil and it cleared in a few days and never came back.
I tried everything with DDs, in the end i just covered her head in oil and got a nit comb and combed it out, her whole head was orange, she looked like she had bright red hair when infact she is almost white blonde! that was over a year ago and its just started to come back now! dont think she would sit still long enough for me to do it again now though!!!
Make a paste out of bi carb soda and water. Apply it to bubs head and leave it to dry. Wash it out when you put bub in the bath and the cradle cap will wash out too. I have found this is the best solution for cradle cap and has worked on all of my kids. The bi carb in the bath also makes their skin extra soft too
