swine flu vax and age

just made an appointment to get my girls done. apparantly DD2 is under 3 so she gets a shot from an individual vial (childrens shot) and DD1 is over 3 so she gets a shot from a multi pack (like 10 people can ge ta shot from one bottle) and its called an adult shot.

what the?!! she is no where near an adult why do they do it like that? and isnt it a bit gross getting them all from the one bottle?

The reason they do it like that is because the multi-dose vials can be drawn up in increments so they can be used for children down to the age of 3; children under the age of 3 needs smaller volumes, so they have manufactured single-dose needles specifically for them.

As for being disgusting, do you mean as in the risk of the vial becoming contaminated? As long as the vials are treated appropriately (swabbed before and after use, only ever pierced with sterile needles, and stored in a refrigerator between uses) then the risk of contamination is minimal.

thanks schmickers.. yeah thats what i meant about it being gross but you are right surely they will keep hygeine practices to a high standard.

do you know anything about the difference between the two. i was googling.. naught me.. but it was saying somewhere that the multi-pack has an additive that the single uses dont have. are they both just as safe as the other?

also, friends of mine got their kids done and they said their 3 1/2 year olds got single use vials. why is my GP different?

The multi-dose vial is preserved with thiomersal. That's is the only difference I know of.

yeah thats the thing that came up in google. do you think the thiomersol is something that i should be worried about?

Thimerosal is approx 50% mercury by weight - if you google this you will see that it has been highly controversial and as such is no longer in most childhood vaccines. Why they are still putting it in the swine flu vac that is recommended and administered to young children and pregnant women I'm not sure

If you would like to know about the swine flu ingredients or any other vaccine ingredients they should be listed on the WAVE (World Education for Vaccine Education) website. Then you can take the list away and do your own research. I think that is a better option than to ask those who are either anti or pro vaccines. It can get messy!!
