Tell me I'm not the only one!!

Oh hun i am right there with you.

DD1 and food :o, i had fail safe meals but even those seem to be out the window at the moment.
If she was allowed to live on Feta, Fruit and Teddy Bears biscuits she would, she even has days where she wont touch nuggets or her favorite spaghetti.

The TTing all i can say is in her own time, DD1 started TTing in summer last year just after her 2nd b'day, of her own accord and she has only just now been fully TT'd.
I put a potty in the lounge, allow as much nappy off time as she wants and made a potty chart.
Outside of that it's all been at her discretion.

Going to bed, DD wont have day sleeps anymore and hasn't for months but there are nights she will be up til 9:30+ just relaxing watching TV with her dad and cracking it when we go to put her to bed, other nights you could say go to bed and she would just go in and put herself down.

I guess all we can do is remember "this too shall pass"but that doesn't mean it's not frustrating.. i get attitude already and she's driving me BONKERS.

ROFL. People say its terrible two. I have always found three more challenging. They seem so set in there ways and the tanties can last so much longer. This too shall pass ;)

Food - Most of the time with DS2 food is pretty good so I'm thanking my lucky stars with that one.

Sleep - He doesn't like to go to bed either. he likes to falls asleep on the couch or besides me (either in my bed or while I'm watching tv on the lounge). A couple of times he went to bed ok at night in his own bed but it didn't stick so that was annoying. I just go with it. Luckily once he's asleep I can move him to his bed without fuss. I know it'll pass and DS1 had a thing when he was little where he wanted to watch a movie before bed and fall asleep to it in my bed.

TT - If my boy wasn't doing the whole TT thing then summer was going to be the big thing. Easier to clean messes, run around with undies, or none on. Luckily for me he is now only since the start of Oct. With DS1 since his birthday is in summer I found it easier ( and he was quite easy to go on the potty too which helped), where as DS2 is my winter baby It's too cold to run around with just undies on, etc, and didn't really like the potty and absolutely hated the big toilet for a while.

It'll just happen one day, like something clicks in their minds and they realise it's not such a bad thing to sit, wee, or poo on the potty, etc. Summer is coming up so maybe she'll like having undies on then, and it's cooler too. Good luck with that. TTing can be so stressful for them and us. :hug:

I see a period in her future where she won't, but she's sure to regress around the age of 17 and take up similar habits, at least until she's 21! ;)

In all seriousness, I hope you find some answers to the issues you're having. Re toilet training, I'd forget it for a little while and come back to it after a period of not bothering. It might just 'click' in the meantime, but at least it takes it away as a point of contention for her. There's very little a three year old can control in her life, and what she puts in her body and how she puts it out is pretty much it!

For eating, keep offering healthy food choices and let her choose from the selection. So if you know she likes the staples, offer her a plate with some of those and some new things. Completely expect the new things to be rejected every time, but it won't stay that way forever. Again, not making food a point of contention will go a long way to how you feel about it, and that will probably help her. As long as you're happy that whatever she is eating is healthy, don't stress about the variety (or lack of it). Eat with her, to show her a good example of eating behaviour.

Been thinking about the food one... DD was fussy for a while, then she started cooking with us, small tasks to start with, but now she can peel, chop veggies and grate... Tgey all taste soooo much nicer when she has made them. (same with DSS actually and he is 13!)
We currently have a batch of zucchini cheese and carrot muffins in the oven, she will demolish them for lunch, if I made or bought them, chances are she would not be that keen!

SJ - i wish that worked for us, the girls have always helped cook but she still doesn't seem interested at the moment, think maybe your DD can have a word with her at the zoo :rofl: DD will be so pleased to see her again.

Slightly off topic but....

I watched a program a while ago about kids and food... There was the theory that if 'cool' kids like the foods that you don't like and you saw them eating it, you would start eating.
The producers set up school aged kids with food like veg and salad and some nicer stuff and watched how the ate both before and after their TV idols came for lunch and ate the veggies and encouraged them to as well.
The kids that 'hated' broccoli started eating, not just at school, but at home too! It was really interesting

Don't know how well it would work with 3 year olds though!

I have a fussy eater too. I also don't cook separate meals, so if DD doesn't want what we're having she doesn't get anything. Hasn't harmed her yet.

Re the sleeping, I think I can offer hope. DD is 4 and 1/4. She has coslept with us all her life and until recently refused to go to her own bed and would sleep on the couch in the living room while DH and I watched TV, etc. If we tried to move her, she'd wake up and come back...
But three nights ago, she decided she wanted to sleep in her own bed and has slept there ever since. She does come into our bed in the early hours of the morning, but the night time routine is a lot easier now. I truly believe that all children will want to sleep on their own in their own time, I think that as a society we expect this far too early...

It will pass.

Food- sigh DS2 is actually better now we have stopped stressing about it. Some nights he eats a great dinner other nights he doesnt touch anything- but come 8.30 and he is staving. Last night he ate 2 tomatoe sauce sandwhiches (4 pieces of bread) and 4 slices of bacon, cold rice rolled into balls and a big slice of cheese but wouldnt touch dinner. We bake alot and that helps get them interested in food. 1 food that everybody devoures is the lactation cookies made with choc chips and about 2c oats not 3- its also great cause the batter is just as good for them :lol:
TT- I too would leave it alone for awhile, then offer a reward everytime she goes- a sticker, a marshmellow whatever works.
Sleep- that is tricky. Consistancy is the thing. We have walked the hard road here. Gone from everybody in 1 bed to 2 adults, now 2 adults and the baby with 2 boys in their room (they share)
We have a star chart. You get a star for eating your dinner, staying in bed (kinda)-perhaps falling asleep in your own bed is a better way to put it? and at the end of the week they can choose an outing, at the end of the month they can choose a toy (from a few choices).

I'd like to know how to get through the same things! DS is only 15 days younger and he's been doing the same things - toilet raining is a no go, he will pull his nappy off when outside though and happily runs around with nothing on his bottom half! Bedtime is usually ok, but only if he gets to run around outside all day.

Food - he'll eat fruit, biscuits, sausages, pancakes, jam or vegemite sandwiches and wheatbix. I have started getting him to eat pureed veggies for lunch now though - he won't touch whole ones and definitely won't eat them with dinner. Lunch time is the ONLY time I have been able to get him to eat the pureed ones. I give him a container of them with a spoon and send him outside with it he'll usually eat some of it.

Not much help sorry.
