    thumb sucking

i have noticed that my DD tries to suck her fingers/hand but she isnt quite co--ordinated enough to get them in the right place and leave it there. so, just wondering if she is going to be a thumb sucker is it something that develops over time as they get more co-ordinated or is it something that happens right from the beginning? (i dont really care either way if she does or doesnt, just interested really).

My son is a dummy boy but goes for the thumb when the dummy is not around. I found that he didn't really get the hang of it until he was probably 9 or 10 mths old but that could be because of the dummy?

DD1 never thumb sucked. DD2 found hers last week and is giving it a red hot go! She can find it pretty much all the time now.

Mackenzie started sucking hers round about 4 months - it used to be for a bout 10 secs before falling alseep and now it's for a few minutes when upset or before sleep.

DD is obsessed with her hands at the moment, constantly sucking them but hasn't got the thumb in there yet.

Some kids do suck their fingers instead of their thumbs. I was a thumb sucker from birth until I was about 8 or 9. My parents tried everything they could to get me to stop (putting rotten tasting cream on it, bandaging it up etc) but I eventually just grew out of it. I have no dental problems from it. I think it's the kids who hook their thumb under their teeth who have issues later in life.

I actually saw DS sucking his thumb on the ultrasound video. I was convinced he was going to be a thumb sucker but he wasn't.
